Piazza della Frutta, located in Padua, Italy, has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally a market square, it was a vibrant hub for trading fruits and vegetables. Over time, it became a gathering place for social events and celebrations. The square's architecture showcases various styles from different eras. Today, Piazza della Frutta continues to enchant visitors with its charming atmosphere, surrounded by historic buildings and bustling market stalls.

In Piazza della Frutta, a splendid sight, Where vegetables dance in colorful light, We, the humble greens, proudly reside, In this bustling square, where life does abide.

Tomatoes ripe, like sunsets on display, Eggplants, majestic in purple array, Bell peppers, vibrant in hues so bold, We, the vegetables, a feast to behold.

Oh, visitors from far and near, take heed, Piazza della Frutta, where senses feed, Step into our world, a vegetable parade, Where flavors and fragrances serenade.

Baskets overflow with nature's delight, Fresh produce, a symphony, a gastronomic sight, Crisp lettuce leaves, like emerald gems, Carrots, radiant orange, nature's diadems.

We beckon you, travelers, to explore, Piazza della Frutta, forevermore, Savor our flavors, taste our earthly charms, In this haven of nourishment, within your arms.

Amidst the market stalls, stories unfold, Of farmers' toil, of harvests untold, From field to table, a journey so grand, In Piazza della Frutta, we proudly stand.

The spirit of Padua, alive in this space, Where vegetables thrive, a sacred place, So come, wanderers, with curious hearts, Let Piazza della Frutta be where it starts.

Discover the beauty of nature's art, In this vibrant square, that captures the heart, For we, the vegetables, salute the grace, Of Piazza della Frutta, an...

It was once called the "Peronio", because they were sold near a column, clogs and boots called in Latin "perones". This Romanesque column, still visible at the entrance to via Breda, is surmounted by a capital at the corners of which are depicted a pumpkin, a palm, a melocotogno, a pear tree. Above the capital there is a parallelepiped in Istrian stone, in which the coat of arms of the city of Padua is depicted, that is, a shield with a cross and St. Prosdocimo, the first bishop of the city. In the square, on the day of the "zobia masa", that is the first Thursday in May, the Fraglia degli "strazzaroli", second-hand dealers and merchants of second-hand goods, put on a show with the greasy tree. The prize consisted of a bag and gloves, which is why it was called "Festa della Borsa".

In the lively Piazza della Frutta, fish and game, eggs and poultry, roasted meat such as porchetta and cooked ox's feet, herbs, that is to say vegetables, and finally precious birds such as falcons were sold. Also in this case the two stairways through which one entered the Palazzo della Ragione took their name from the goods exhibited and sold and were thus called Scala delle Erbe and Scala degli Osei. Since the end of the 12th century, the popular fruit and vegetable market is still held here today, with wooden...

L'area era vivace in età preromana come testimoniano i numerosi ritrovamenti archeologici.

Klare Empfehlung.
