Museum of Geology "G. G. Gemmellaro" — Attraction in Palermo

The quarter close to it is not really the best, but inside the Museum you can appreciate a whole variety of archeological discoveries, including many different types of fossils, important geological discoveries about the volcano Etna and Sicily, human history and the oldest skeleton found in Sicily of a woman kindly called "Thea", of almost 15000 years ago. Fossils from the sea and the history of the Elephants in Sicily with a room showing the many different types of Elephants that were in Sicily in the past. There is a Shark section and ancient fish area and a room dedicated to the ancient red marble.

Important note: Each floor is connected with both stairs and elevators and there are chairs to sit at the beginning of each floor.

The collection of the museum is of great quality, it includes a lot of holotypes (unique specimens on which new fossil species have been established). However the exhibition furniture is very outdated and poorly maintained. There are also a lot of specimens that come from outside Sicily. This is ok, because they portray the same epoch or environment, but it is not explicit in the narrative of the exhibition, only when you read the small identification plates of each fossil does it become clear. The first section about the origins of Sicily and it's vulcans is also very informative.
