Count Federico Palace - Museum — Attraction in Palermo

YOU MUST take the comprehensive one hour tour of the palazzo. Mine was conducted by one of the sons, Nicolo Federico. The other guide is his brother; two tours each every day (11,12,13 & 14)for each brother. Either reserve online or pay when you arrive. I didn’t have a reservation & it was not an issue. It’s 15€.

You should visit because it’s breathtakingly fascinating to see the building, its interiors, the rooms, the decor and listed to how the palazzo has evolved. The Federico family lives there but has kindly & graciously opened their home for the world to see. Funds collected from the reasonable price of 15€ are used to fund never-ending renovations & pay maintenance costs. The days when the nobility married rich American heiresses has long passed.

What made this house museum visit extra special is that it’s conducted by the two sons who grew up in the home & will share many family stories. I also learned that one of the original city towers was incorporated into the architectural design. You will visit the tower as well.

Did I convince you? I lived in Florence for 3 years in the Palazzo Canevaro & was fortunate to be a frequent guest at many of the palazzi owned by Florence’s noble families. Those palaces are very different and appear to have been built much more recently than the Palazzo Conte Federico (but maybe I’m mistaken). Both groups of palazzi are beautiful; do not pass up the opportunity to see this one and meet a family member. Ask them anything; it was one of the highlights of my visit to Palermo.

Un gioiello nel cuore di Palermo: Un Tuffo nel passato alla riscoperta delle proprie origini!

Palazzo Conte Federico è una vera gemma nel cuore di Palermo! Il palazzo è attualmente abitato dal Conte Alessandro Federico e dalla sua famiglia che trae le sue origini da Federico d'Antiochia, uno dei figli del grande Imperatore Federico II. Una tappa imperdibile.

Ottima la posizione: il palazzo è immerso nel centro storico della città di Palermo a pochi metri dalla Cattedrale Normanna, dal Palazzo dei Normanni e dal mercato di Ballarò. Una esperienza veramente unica! Altamente raccomandato!

. Eccezionale accoglienza. Il giovane erede il Conte Nicolò Federico, esponente della sedicesima generazione di questa nobile casata siciliana, è una guida strepitosa. Narra la storia familiare con orgoglio, naturalezza ed eleganza, descrivendo in maniera impeccabile i luoghi di interesse iconici del palazzo, in un percorso ricco di aneddoti e di storia. Preparato, coinvolgente, cordiale, colto e disponibile anche ad un confronto personale circa le varie vicessitudini storiche che si sono svolte e susseguite nel corso del tempo nelle stanze del palazzo, con particolare riguardo al periodo del Risorgimento Italiano; periodo in cui sono stati ospitati personaggi storici rinomati che hanno cambiato il corso della storia del Sud Italia. E‘ stato bello, essendo anch’io una Meridionale precisamente Calabrese, poter scoprire di trovarci in linea su determinati aspetti storici e scelte politiche strategico_militari che hanno coinvolto il Meridione, soprattutto, durante la Spedizione dei Mille ed aver avuto l’occasione di poterci confrontare sulle conseguenze che ne sono derivate. Grazie a questo dibattito costruttivo, sono riuscita a recuperare anche un tassello della storia della mia famiglia, ed, anche parte della storia della mia città Tropea (ex Principato). I Normanni hanno lasciato nella mia città un’impronta importante..! Hanno portato civiltà e sviluppo, lasciandoci anche qualche opera in eredità come la bellissima Cattedrale Normanna Maria S.S. di Romania, la Chiesa dell'Annunziata e la Chiesa Michelizia dedicata a San Michele Arcangelo. E‘ stato, quindi, un onore aver potuto conoscere uno dei discendenti di questa dinastia.

Suggerimento: In occasione delle festività di Pasqua e dell’Anno Giubilare indetto per l’indulgenza plenaria dei defunti, sarebbe bello, qualora fosse possibile, poter dedicare, nella stanza intitolata a Giuseppe Garibaldi, un minuto di silenzio ed un piccolo momento di preghiera comunitaria, in memoria ed in suffragio di tutti i caduti di guerra che si sono avuti durante il Regno dei Sabaudi (Savoia) a partire dalla Spedizione dei Mille guidata da Garibaldi, per passare dalla prima guerra mondiale sino ad arrivare alla seconda guerra mondiale.

Palazzo strepitoso e regale, merita la visita. Le proposte culturali sono sbalorditive, non solo in termini di quantità, ma anche di fascino e varietà, conserva ancora tanti piccoli tesori tutti da scoprire.
