Gioelia — Attraction in Pompei

AMERICANS/ENGLISH SPEAKERS BEWARE. DO NOT COME HERE.

This was the worst service experience I have ever received. We lined up for this gelato where there was a lot of Italian speaking people who the staff (two ladies: Noemi and Simona) were very nice and friendly and chatty with. When one of the ladies was available to take our order, she instead had fellow Italian customers in line behind us go in front and politely took their order and chatted in Italian with them.

When we finally made it to the front because there was no one else that they could serve, we said hello and they realized we didn't speak Italian and they were immediately annoyed that we were there. They rudely asked us if we had a ticket to get the gelato then proceeded to be extremely annoyed with us.

We ordered our two gelatos and the lady was making disgusted faces when we said our flavors and would not make eye contact when she handed us the cups. They were also speaking to each other in Italian mocking us and our orders. They also did not take our payment right away and stood talking and were making other customers orders even though we were right at the front, waiting.

I would not recommend coming to this place at all if you don't speak Italian. (Their menu is also in Italian only) You will be treated with no kindness or common human respect. This experience has put me off of coming to this...

From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the inviting atmosphere and the tantalizing aroma of freshly made ice cream. The ice cream itself was great. But, unfortunately, as some other English speakers have found, the service of the ladies (on two occasions) was rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. They seemed offended by our presence, maintained a disgusted expression throughout serving, and talked to each other in Italian in front of us — very clearly making mocking remarks. They also made a big fuss about paying by card, when it’s clearly a payment method that they accept.

By other reviews, the attitude of these particular ladies seems to be a longstanding issue, which still hasn’t been addressed by the owner. Hopefully, this will be taken more seriously, as it taints the experience of an otherwise...
