VIRTUS FoodShop — Restaurant in Pompei

We found Virtus food shop - a deli-cafe -from searching here and fully recommend as a place to eat for lunch or dinner. We wanted to find somewhere we felt comfortable and relaxed that was not on the tourist trail and not all about disappointing ‘pizza and pasta’. The owner made us feel so welcome and the service was paced perfectly for a relaxing afternoon after a tiring morning walking around Pompeii. We sat outside enjoying the shaded breeze and ate delicious food - including pasta with lemon and anchovy, steak with rocket, tomato and Parmesan, hamburger and aubergine salad. We then bought some deli food to try at home. Please don’t walk past and instead support an independent local businessman who is working long hours to be a success. I went here with friends about 2 years ago and have meant to do a review for a while. When we first went, it was about 15 minutes before closing and we expected to just grab food and go. Dario and his family insisted that we stay and served us. We all were given a complimentary Caprese salad that was incredibly fresh and good quality before our food came out. Our food was easily some of the best we had on our trip. We came back the next morning for sandwiches to go, which were also wonderful. My parents recommended this place to us, as they had gone a few weeks before, and they also received great service and excellent food, the best eggplant of their trip. A hidden gem, you must add to your cost to Pompei. My girlfriend and I happened to stumble into this place, after asking around for a place to buy some wine and snacks. We were greeted by Dario, who not only gave us an excellent customer experience, but recommended if we wanted to try an authentic “Home Cooked” meal we should come back and have dinner. Needless to say, before we left we stopped by. Their food, and customer service was far more memorable than some of the Michelin restaurants we tried in the region. If you do want a feel of a home cooked meal (they have a restaurants for those wondering, it’s not an actual home) with delicious taste you have to visit. 5/5 must try again next time...
