Villa Sola Cabiati — Attraction in Tremezzina

Having visited many Italian villas, I can confidently say that Villa Sola Cabiati is one of my absolute favorites. It is grand yet intimate, majestic yet deeply inviting.

From the very moment you step onto the grounds, you are transported into another world—a world of refined beauty, history, and la dolce vita. Every corner of this storied villa is a tribute to artistry, heritage, luxury, and the effortless charm of Italy.

Sul lungolago che porta a Tremezzo risalta Villa Sola Cabiati, detta anche «La Quiete»: eretta all'inizio del XVI secolo dai duchi Del Carretto, passò prima alla famiglia Brentano, di Griante, poi ai Serbelloni, una delle le più nobili famiglie milanesi, i quali le diedero l'aspetto attuale. Dal 1754 i Serbelloni ospitarono come precettore per ben nove anni l'abate-poeta Giuseppe Parini. L'accesso alla villa, prima che la strada fosse carrabile, avveniva per lo più dal lago, attraverso uno scenografico imbarcadero del 1813. Una volta sbarcati, la villa si intravedeva attraverso da una maestosa cancellata in ferro battuto sorretta da pilastri recanti statue a soggetto mitologico e grandi vasi di pietra. Si attraversava quindi il giardino all'italiana, organizzato in quattro grandi parterre con aiuole fiorite a formare delicati ricami vegetali. Sullo sfondo, il sobrio complesso della residenza, caratterizzato da un corpo centrale a tre piani affiancato da due ali più basse, dette 'cappuccine', d'aspetto classicheggiante con decorazioni barocchette. L'attico, decorato da vasi in pietra, forma un grande timpano su cui spicca lo stemma araldico della famiglia. Una scalinata con balaustre in pietra traforata e un sontuoso portale in marmo introducono all'interno (non visitabile). Tra gli artisti chiamati all'opera spiccano i nomi di Francesco Cornegliani (1740-1815), pittore della bottega milanese del Tiepolo, e di Muzio Canzio, raffinato stuccatore della vicina Valle Intelvi.
