I booked this hotel because it is rated highly in Tripadvisor. But I’m surprised it is rated so highly or am I just unlucky to get a poor room? As you can see from the pictures, the drawer that contains the DVD player is broken off. There were 2 long pieces of hair in the bathroom when I checked-in. The safe didn’t work. Get Err3 message. The internet is terrible. About 5Mbps. A budget hotel I stayed the night before, had speed of 250Mbps. The wifi login page sometimes accepts you, sometimes doesn’t. The hotel charges you extra to use the gym or pool. Oh the gym and pool opens from 10am!?!||The plus points are that the hotel is close to Hakata train station (but this is also a minus point as well - with the hordes of commuters). Here, there is Hakata City Plaza and there are lots of restaurants on the 9th and 10th floors. There is an underground walkway from the station to the hotel. However, it was a bit difficult first 1 or 2 days to navigate. The bathroom and room is big by Japanese standards. The carpet feels clean/not sticky compared to some other hotels I stayed in. The reception/lobby is huge and impressive. I did eat a Japanese breakfast (lots of little dishes) at one of the Japanese restaurants in the hotel (Benkay - I think) and it was good and I recommend it. The sushi (Ginmeisui - I think) was OK. The bar by the lobby was one of the darkest bars I’ve been to. In fact, they give you a torch to read the drinks menu!||If I go Fukuoka again then I probably stay around Tenjin. I now know this is the main area for shopping and dining. Plus is more centrally located to visit attractions in Fukuoka. Hotel Nikko unfortunately doesn’t persuade me to...
Read moreThis hotel is about 3-4 minute walk from Hakata station and 5-6 minutes fromGion station. You can also walk to Canal city in 10 minutes and have msot sights in Hakata old town within wlaking distance. The hotel is connected with Hakata station and Gion also through an undeground passage which is nice if it rains. There is a konbini right next to thehotel and several more in the surrounding area. Lots of eating options in the area as well. So the location is excellent. The hotel is clean and well kept even eventhough signs of aging is shown. Rooms are spacious for Japanese standards and have the important amneties like safe and refrigirator. 1 free bottle of water is given every day. AC in room was very queit on low settings. Wifi was good but not great. Meaning I was able to stream in 1080p most of the time but some times had to go down to 720p. For surfing is more than good enough.|Staff is very friendly and speaks english well enough. Breakfast comes in two types, Japanese and buffet. I only tried the buffet which had the usual selection with eggs, bacons, many kinds of breads and bakery, a few cold cuts, a small salad bar. It also had an egg station where you could have omelette freshly made with 4 selections. One was omelette with mentaiko. It also had a variety of japanese breakfast options. I would say the buffet is good but could have a bit more dishes. |All in all the hotel is good and I would recommend...
Read moreI went with my family on vacation and we enjoyed the large room (we had one of the corner rooms with 3 beds and a good city view), the breakfasts were excellent and the service at breakfast was spot on, location was great. I wanted to note to other travelers though that I also had some important work calls with the U.S. in the early morning hours. Because my family was in the room, I had planned to come out and pick up a video call from the lobby/2nd floor, but didn't realize the hotel turns off all the lights apparently until 6am so the hotel was dark except for the spot right above the front desk. I asked the front desk if there was a lit corner I could use to make the call, and instead spent precious time before the call in a frustrating conversation where the two staff there who either didn't understand or refused to understand the ask and at the end told me that I was allowed to make only a voice call (and not a video call??) and that they didn't have a business room (there's a room on the second floor labeled a business room). With only minutes left for my call I had to cut off this exchange and ended up taking the meeting on the bathroom floor. Overall - I think they did all this work and investment for their customers, but were surprisingly unhelpful where I needed it the most, and were also surprisingly not understanding about...
