This is one of the best temples I have ever seen in Japan. It is usually quiet and peaceful. For me going to Joten ji has been an experience of a lifetime. I have been to Japan several times and have been to the bigger, the larger, the more famous temples and shinjas. However, none of them gave me the true peacefulness and calmness Joten ji has offered. One of the monks I talked to said that he was there to seek what he truly wanted to do in life. He is here to search his life purpose. He has been trying to find the meaning of his life and what he truly wants to do in his 4 years at Joten ji, and he grows more mature, brighter and more self accepting everyday.
