I took bus K and got off at Hatajuka, the hiking entrance is right next to it. Follow the sign that said to Motohakone. The hiking is a mix of stone pave roads, some side walks and some tail walks along the bamboo tree. This hike takes about 1.5 hours to finish. At 15 min of walk there are stairs that go up, take the left turn where the big map sign is. Keep following the sign that said Motohakone, it will lead you to Lake. Or you can also start this hike from the tea house- Amazake Chaya which will be a much shorter hike. The stone can be slippery so be aware.

We walked from Moto-Hakone down to Hatajuku which seems the much easier way to do the hike. Walking boots are a must as it can be slippery and the terrain is very uneven. We were slightly spooked by the ‘beware the bears’ signs but apparently sightings are incredibly rare. We are so glad we completed the hike as it was beautiful, peaceful, and we enjoyed tea halfway at the teahouse.

Very beautiful road starts around Hatajuku 畑宿 to the lake. That's the roads samurai used to take to go from tokyo to kyoto. It's a jungle full of old cedar trees. Very beautiful scenery.

What a great way to explore Hakone! It was a very fun hike. But beware!! It’s not as easy as you think on the cobblestone pathway. It should have taken our group less than 20 mins to complete that distance but instead it was...
