Togendai Station is a super convenient hub in Hakone. It connects the Hakone Ropeway with the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise, so it’s the perfect spot to start or end your loop around Lake Ashi. The station itself is clean, well organized, and very family-friendly—there are elevators, which made it easy with our stroller. Staff were helpful, and signs are clear in English and Japanese. There are also a few shops and snack spots inside, so you can grab a quick bite or last-minute souvenirs while you wait for the ropeway or boat. Bathrooms are clean, and the station has plenty of space, which makes moving around with kids or luggage stress-free. Pro tips: • Elevator access → great for strollers and heavy luggage. • Lake Ashi cruise → the boats leave from right outside the station. • Snacks/souvenirs → worth grabbing here before boarding. • Weekdays → much calmer; weekends can get crowded with tour groups. • Timing → check ropeway and boat schedules in advance, especially if weather or volcanic gas levels affect operations. A smooth, reliable, and well-run station—perfect base for exploring Hakone. Also prom tip you can take the bus here and it’s literally the last stop and the bus also leaves here back to wherever you need to go. Just make sure you check the maps and you could Google translate it also. Make sure to download off-line maps on your Google maps

It was a short journey from our hotel via local bus to togendai station Hakone at #lakeashi where you can catch a #pirateship or hop on the #hakoneropeway to Owakudani’. 🌋 🥚 Loved the Evangelion characters everywhere & the ropeway was super scenic and leads you to an amazing place. Don't forget to try the "Kuro-Tamago" aka black eggs or sulfur eggs when you get to the top of Owakudani, legend has it these special eggs increases life expectancy! Coming to Togendai Station twice in a day, one for Hakone Ropeway and another for the "pirate" Sightseeing Cruise. The ropeway to Hakone is a scenic ride, shared with 17 other passengers but you still get plenty of angles to take photos. It was during this tour that I found out that one of my sought after accomodation (Hanaori) is just a few metres away!

Ended up buying the pass for the cable car and ropeway for 3700 yen. But realised it doesn't cover the ship at all. And had to pay extra 2200 yen. Btw the hakone pass doesn't cover it either, you'll have to pay an extra 700 for it.

The ropeway was good, I was able to see Mt Fuji and enjoyed going all the way to lake Ashi. On our way back without any warning, the ropeway to get back on the top of the mountain was suspended due to mechanical failure. We had no idea or any information on what bus to take to the top or even back at the station. No replacement buses, you still had to pay 800yen to find your way back.

I want my money back at this point. Waste of my time and energy. Too many tourists and it was a pretty boring place, just more for influencers for...
