My family and I rented two rooms for 4 adults and a baby.

The first rooms that we checked into had old, stained carpets. In my room, the sink by the toilet was stained from use (not that big of a deal) and the toilet seat felt like it was coming off the toilet. The vanity in the bath area was clean, and the bath itself seemed updated. However, the tile in the vanity area looked like it had blood spots from where a woman had had her period and they just didn't wipe it up. I used a wet tissue to check if it was stained or dirty, and it came up with little effort meaning it just hadn't been cleaned. In the second room, the floor was similar and the vanity area next to the bath also had some blood colored spots. Beds in both rooms seemed clean enough, the cushions in the tatami area were old and worn with stains, and the fabric on the western chairs seemed to be coming up.

I couldn't deal with the blood spots, so I requested to change rooms or for them to come clean both rooms. They were able to find two rooms and said I could look at one of them first. I went to check the first room and it was like walking into a different hotel. Updated everything - pretty blue floors, nice shower, big TV, clean bedding and floors everywhere. I immediately agreed and we moved our things. I gave the key of the room I'd checked to two of the adults in my group and my husband, baby, and I went into the second room. The second room looked great at first glance until we saw that it hadn't been properly cleaned in some time. There were about half-a-dozen large (about 2-3cm each) spiders hanging out by the ceiling in various corners (the room I checked didn't have this issue). The spiders started to move once we entered the room, so my husband took care of them. We don't like hurting spiders, but it was just too much... spent the rest of the trip being worried about disturbing the curtains lest more spiders appear. There were numerous webs around the room that we requested be cleaned while we were out the second day. Thankfully, they did a proper clean of the room after that and we could even walk around without slippers the second day!

The breakfast buffet was alright. Decent bread, standard spread.

Private baths were disappointing, but I guess alright. Not as nice as we expected. Public baths were the same. Could use some cleaning and updating but overall, standard old hotel I guess.

Would have been happy with everything if we hadn't paid 25000yen per person for two nights. If it was half the price then the clean room with the blue floors and no spiders would have been worth it since it is located near Hakone. Given the room change, lack of cleaning, and spiders, very disappointed. Would...

Dissapointing visit.||It is located at a fairly useless location.||Nothing is really close or usefull or easy to get to regarding mount fuji activities.||||On clear days a view of mt. Fuji is possible.||||The hotel itself is quite terrible.||One of the worst hotels that we stayed at in quite a while.||||Let start with the good:||- free use of private and public Onsens||- friendly reception and helpfull||||The bad:||- The rooms are exceptionally dirty.||Dust and fungus smells greet you as you enter the room. Thick layers of dust in most places around the beds and other items. Fungus on the shower curtain.||Bugs in the room. Stains on the bed linnen. Curtains that stunk and have turned yellow. ||I guess they chose to put chloride desinfection pots in the room instead of cleaning it.||||- Breakfast was bad.||The selection looked oke at first, but everything was cold and tasteless. Only thing that tasted good were the cornflakes. And we had breakfast at a normal time (7:30).||||- Dinner is just dumb,||You arrive there and are told that dinner reservations have to be made 1 day in advance, if not you are out of luck.||Most hard to reach dinner places in the neighbourhood close at a convenient 4 or 5pm. One or two options remain that also provide a free shuttle pick up and drop off.||||- The hotel has the atmosphere of a ghost hotel, you rarely see or hear anyone (depending on your prefferences, this could either be a good or bad thing).||||If you do want to stay in Hakone, i would advise selecting a cleaner hotel.||Make sure to skip this one if you are sensetive to dust qnd fungus in the air.||||We decided to deviate from the scedule our travel agency put together and flee the Hakone area. We booked a hotel in Kawaguchiko, which is much more conveniently located near the Mt....

Our stay at this hotel did I not take off very well, checking into the hotel took over 30 mins due to poor internet in the building and miss communication. Walking to our room was also horrible as all we could smell was cigarette smoke and other disturbing aromas. Once we got to our room we opened the door and were disgusted by the stained furniture and carpet. The bathroom was absolutely revolting with dirty toilet seat. In the room they offer traditional slippers to wear around the. Hotel and your room but these slippers smelt and were dirty as well. The robes we got given we also dirty with more bad smells and disgusting smells. We called room service telling them that this is disgraceful and we were not happy with this room. Luckily we go to move to a newer room that didn’t have as many staines nor smells. One night we asked the front desk to show us local restaurants that was easy to get to by taxi, we had a look at the menu and decided that this menu looked good. We ordered a taxi to the restaurant but when we made our way inside and looked at the menu again it was not the right menu. The hotel had sent us to the wrong location. One of the people I was staying with had an allergy to feathers so we asked if we could have different pillows and not a pillow dooner, so again we called room service for non pillow bedding and we never received any items for the allergy so we used all the Japanese robes we had for her and made sure that the hotel knew that this was unexceptional . There is so many more things that I would like to share about the unhygienic hotel and smaller smelling hallways. DO...

We are perfectly happy with our stay at Kagetsuen, and highly recommend this hotel! I will just mention some of the highlights: nicely sized and very comfortable room, cleaned daily and even too much as they insist on changing bed linen daily, which is completely unnecessary; private mineral baths for which we never had to wait or make a reservation; very good breakfast with many choices; kind staff; exceptional cleanliness; 1 minute walk from the bus stop, but we walk to museums and villages as well; and finally, a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji! True, the hotel is not very new but the furniture and design from a few decades ago give it a nostalgic feel. Where else in the world do you have a dial phone from which you can make international calls and call other rooms? 😃 As I said, everything is functional, and we enjoyed our stay very much, thank you! The only thing is that Japan is still operating under covid rules, so there are multiple precautions you encounter nowhere else any more, but the hotel cannot decide on this alone, as most Japanese people wear masks even when they walk outside.

Location: not the best but it’s up on the mountain which is quiet and serene Room: hotel is old in general but definitely consider as clean and well maintained. The room is ok for a night and is spacious enough. The toilet ceiling is very low which makes changing clothes a bit hard. My hands keep banging onto the ceiling. The mattress is quite soft and wobbly. The pillow is firm though if anyone is interested to know. Parking: quite a few lots despite its peak season. So no problem about it. Breakfast: 7/10 selection which is good enough for us. Overall: good for a night stay. We didn’t try the onsen this time as we thought the hotel is so old. Value for money especially if hit peak season like us.

Had a one night stay in Hakone at this hotel. The room is quite spacious and the bathroom clean, the big issue with the room is the smell of cigarettes (this is usually present in old hotels as Japan introduced a ban on smoking indoors only in recent years). Had a traditional kaiseki dinner at the hotel's restaurant and was pleaseantly surprised. Another huge plus is the onsen (mineral thermal bath) as they have 4 huge private baths that every customer can use (no booking, you go to the bath and queue, when I went there 2 were free).
