My family and I rented two rooms for 4 adults and a baby.
The first rooms that we checked into had old, stained carpets. In my room, the sink by the toilet was stained from use (not that big of a deal) and the toilet seat felt like it was coming off the toilet. The vanity in the bath area was clean, and the bath itself seemed updated. However, the tile in the vanity area looked like it had blood spots from where a woman had had her period and they just didn't wipe it up. I used a wet tissue to check if it was stained or dirty, and it came up with little effort meaning it just hadn't been cleaned. In the second room, the floor was similar and the vanity area next to the bath also had some blood colored spots. Beds in both rooms seemed clean enough, the cushions in the tatami area were old and worn with stains, and the fabric on the western chairs seemed to be coming up.
I couldn't deal with the blood spots, so I requested to change rooms or for them to come clean both rooms. They were able to find two rooms and said I could look at one of them first. I went to check the first room and it was like walking into a different hotel. Updated everything - pretty blue floors, nice shower, big TV, clean bedding and floors everywhere. I immediately agreed and we moved our things. I gave the key of the room I'd checked to two of the adults in my group and my husband, baby, and I went into the second room. The second room looked great at first glance until we saw that it hadn't been properly cleaned in some time. There were about half-a-dozen large (about 2-3cm each) spiders hanging out by the ceiling in various corners (the room I checked didn't have this issue). The spiders started to move once we entered the room, so my husband took care of them. We don't like hurting spiders, but it was just too much... spent the rest of the trip being worried about disturbing the curtains lest more spiders appear. There were numerous webs around the room that we requested be cleaned while we were out the second day. Thankfully, they did a proper clean of the room after that and we could even walk around without slippers the second day!
The breakfast buffet was alright. Decent bread, standard spread.
Private baths were disappointing, but I guess alright. Not as nice as we expected. Public baths were the same. Could use some cleaning and updating but overall, standard old hotel I guess.
Would have been happy with everything if we hadn't paid 25000yen per person for two nights. If it was half the price then the clean room with the blue floors and no spiders would have been worth it since it is located near Hakone. Given the room change, lack of cleaning, and spiders, very disappointed. Would...

Read moreOur stay at this hotel did I not take off very well, checking into the hotel took over 30 mins due to poor internet in the building and miss communication. Walking to our room was also horrible as all we could smell was cigarette smoke and other disturbing aromas. Once we got to our room we opened the door and were disgusted by the stained furniture and carpet. The bathroom was absolutely revolting with dirty toilet seat. In the room they offer traditional slippers to wear around the. Hotel and your room but these slippers smelt and were dirty as well. The robes we got given we also dirty with more bad smells and disgusting smells. We called room service telling them that this is disgraceful and we were not happy with this room. Luckily we go to move to a newer room that didn’t have as many staines nor smells. One night we asked the front desk to show us local restaurants that was easy to get to by taxi, we had a look at the menu and decided that this menu looked good. We ordered a taxi to the restaurant but when we made our way inside and looked at the menu again it was not the right menu. The hotel had sent us to the wrong location. One of the people I was staying with had an allergy to feathers so we asked if we could have different pillows and not a pillow dooner, so again we called room service for non pillow bedding and we never received any items for the allergy so we used all the Japanese robes we had for her and made sure that the hotel knew that this was unexceptional . There is so many more things that I would like to share about the unhygienic hotel and smaller smelling hallways. DO...
