Amimoto Oba is a cosy spot we came to for lunch. I ordered the Wakasagi (freshwater smelt) special lunch set for ¥1,350. You can pay extra to add Ebi (prawn) to complete the set, which I initially thought was already included because of the picture. The English descriptions and ordering system on the iPad weren’t very clear, so just take note, it’s easy to order wrongly. Luckily, the staff were very patient, kind, and helpful throughout.

Read moreThis dining expirence was a surprise in the best way. This little town is mostly just for tourists as it’s a transportation hub for the Hakone ropeway and the lake cruise. However, we had one of our best meals in all of Japan here. The food was absolutely delicious and very clean. I would highly recommend the combo plate with udon and tempura vegetables and lake fish. The udon was so flavorful with the yuzu lemon and the tempura was epic, especially the little fried lake fish which add a nice local experience to you meal. The setting is also right on the lake.
