We had the good fortune of getting a waterfront tatami room that affords a good view of the boat houses, the port where they conduct boat tours of the area, and the local tourist information center.
With breakfast and dinner included, we paid 16,500 yen each. Due to its location in the deep countryside, you cannot expect that many dining establishments in the area. The meals were gorgeous as described in the other reviews.
While eating you can enjoy the peaceful and beautiful view of the sea. It does live up to its reputation as a waterfront inn.
Because of the renovations made to this boat house, there is a modern feel to it, yet it is still essentially a traditional Japanese inn. You get to sleep on futons spread across the tatami flooring. The pillows are the traditional ones filled with sand-like (soba?) things inside. You get to experience the traditional bathing tradition (with the hot bath shared with other guests as we are not allowed to drain the water from the bath tub.
What kept me from giving a perfect rating are the following:
Traditional houses meant thin walls; so it is an unspoken rule to be considerate to other guests. However, we had the misfortune of being placed next to a room with the rudest Japanese guests I have ever encountered. They made noises at way past 10 PM. They never shut their sliding doors quietly, and pretty much acted like they had the place to themselves. Note that we can hear their laughter, their conversations, their loud footsteps, their slamming of doors at way past bedtime. So much for wanting a quiet getaway from the city. It also did not help that the air-conditioner is not working effectively to cool our room while we slept. Sleeping through the noise and the heat was unexpectedly a torture especially for a room in a waterfront inn in the countryside.
Like the others, we are not very pleased with the early check-out time of 10 AM paired with the late check-in time of 4 PM. I hope that the inn’s owner that the hours between 10 AM and 4 PM are actually the hours we wished we could be indoors in this scorching summer heat (July 2025, maximum temperature was 38 degrees).
It seems that this area in general has this check-in check-out rule because of staff shortages.
We cannot even leave our baggage there at past 11 AM as there is no guarantee of staff being present at all times.
Noisy next-door guests notwithstanding, I would like to come back here again in the hopes of an...
Read moreOh my gosh, Ine is so breathtaking! Waterfront inn is the best balcony view you can get in Ine. If you love the sea and seafood, this is a MUST to visit and you must be here for at least 2 days hopefully with a rental car to explode the hidden gems of Ine region. I remember falling asleep to the sounds of the gentle sea waves and waking up to sea gull call. Then, opening the sliding door to a fresh sea breeze at 7AM with a spectacular view of the essence of ine; Funaya. You simply feel that you have transported to fisherman lifestyle back in 19th century Japan, in a tatami room with a provided yukata. Breakfast was in cozy basement, with a local japanese song about Ine's Funaya, against the spectacular funaya houses. Life cant get more tranquil than that..! Food, was above average. Not superb but just not bad. I seen reviews below stating food was the best that salvage their stay, on the other than i felt it was okay. Probably because my expectations were too high. I stayed for 2 days, and 2 nights they served different dinner courses. First night main entreé was fresh osyters and second night was crab! Rooms were not small!!! I find it just enough for 2. If you are backpacker or travelling by car, you would find the space adequete. ||bad things are : No baths/shower in the morning(from that i understand when i visited in spring). Bath timings 4PM-11PM. Reservations only via phone in Japanese. I did it with simple jap via google translate. You can try writing in to Ine tourism board.||Tips: Drive & spend 2 nights! Maybe just have 1 halfboard, we had 2 days of halfboard and we got very tired of seafood already(unless you are a huge seafood lover). Drive up north 30minutes to Ugawa Onsen(宇川温泉), apparently only hot springs in Ine. Try avoid summer, would be humid and mosquitoes(unless fireworks festival). Check weather forecast, hopefully it doesnt rain/cloudy. Cloudy= no stars.||Hope you. All enjoy this truly underated hidden...
Read moreGreat experience. Best food (dinner). I paid 16500 yen each person including dinner and breakfast(Nov2019). Drove from Osaka to Ine and had quick stopped at Amanohashidate. It is a very great experience with local Japanese Inn. Staff can speak English, not fluent but enough for basic communication. Breakfast is good and minimal. The highlight meal was dinner...it is the must. They provided parking next to the Inn for 3 cars and the parking is free but once you checked out, you have to move your car out of their space and go parked at public parking near by. They have a smoking area behind the building, the door next to public lady’s bathroom. The building has two floors, only one complaint is the wall is paper thin and it is made from paper like Japanese paper wall with wooden frame. Also it’s only can be locked the room from inside so if you walk around the town, you better carry all your belongings. The food serves at the dinning area first floor and it was clean with the best view especially breakfast time. Dinner was 6 pm and breakfast was 8 am and they are not serve breakfast after 9am. It is shared bathroom and toilets. The toilet on the second floor was cleaner than the first floor. The bathroom located at first floor only. It was small but clean with a little hot tub. And yes ppl their just be naked and shower all together like Japanese style shared bath. They do separate male and female area. The bed is a futon(sleep on the floor) but comfy. They prepared the bed for you but you still have to do your own bed which is not that hard. Everything is an amazing experience. The Inn next to water area. The room has heater and A/C. I booked with their Main Ine website and they only take cash with...
