Recently refurbished to a high standard with modern amenities, this converted boathouse is on the waters edge with direct sea access and beautiful views. We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend.
It is located 5mins walk from the tourist office, on a quiet/ narrow (only the width of a car) street.
You have to check in with your passport and collect the keys for the accommodation from the tourist office.. so what we did was to ask our taxi to stop briefly to do this and then drive on with us to the accommodation (to save us struggling with our luggage). An assistant from the tourist office then followed us to the accommodation to explain to us (in very good English), how the appliances in the accommodation work (because all the instructions there are written in Japanese).
The accommodation features an entrance hall with umbrellas; downstairs bathroom with heated bath tub, Japanese style showering area with bucket/stool & Japanese toilet; kitchen area with table & six chairs, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, kettle, small selection of tea/coffee; lower level (down 4 steps) lounge area with sofa & coffee table, patio doors with small terrace & direct sea access; upstairs with x2 sleeping rooms/ possibility of x6 sleeping mats; upstairs shower room & toilet.
The accommodation has modern television with Netflix (requires your own sign in), downstairs under floor heating and efficient reversible air conditioning throughout.
The accommodation can organise a breakfast or dinner delivery if pre-booked.
Regarding lunch & dinner options if you plan to eat out, there are a couple of local restaurants ..but you need to pre-book.
There are no convenience stores at Ine, so you will need to bring supplies with you (your own food/ bottle of wine if you are planning to eat in). The water in the tap is drinkable, but they do provide 4L in the fridge on arrival.
The best restaurant in Ine is Funaya Kajiya. Lovely meat and melt in the mouth sashimi. We opted for the 4,800 Yen set menu inc tempura, meat, fish, rice, miso, small desert..which was delicious.
Ine is a VERY quiet seaside village with 230 boat houses. Apart from a few restaurants; the tourist information office; view point with souvenir shop and cafe on the hill; a tiny sake distillery (which wasn't offering tours when we visited.. only had a small fridge selling about 10 different bottles), there is nothing here. A few tourists visit during the day, but otherwise it is a place to relax, read a book and enjoy a short stroll. Some of the local fishermen offer boat rides in the bay. The tourist office no longer offers free bicycle rental, but can organise rental at cost or hire of electric scooters at cost.
The only suggestion we have to improve the accommodation, is to provide a memory foam topper (for the futon style sleeping mats), because they are quite hard for Western guests. Possibly also a more powerful hair dryer (we visited in winter so it was necessary for the girls) and also some small sachets of milk in the fridge for Western guests...
