Genji Pond (源氏池) at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura is symbolically linked to the Minamoto clan (Genji clan). The pond features three islands representing the three Minamoto family members who established the Kamakura shogunate. It is paired with Heike Pond, representing the Taira clan (Heike clan), highlighting the historical conflict between the two clans. Surrounded by cherry trees and irises, Genji Pond is particularly scenic in spring and early summer, enhancing the shrine's tranquil and picturesque ambiance. 🌸🏯💧

One of my favourite place in Japan - if you’d like to escape from the city, this is one of the best place you can visit! Only 1.5h from Tokyo (you get there with JR pass), Kamakura is a small town full of Japanese culture, temples, nature and lovely shops! This garden was so peaceful and I could feed turtles & fishes! Highly recommended place to explore!

Genji Pond is a July marvel. The stunning lotus flowers in full bloom create a mesmerizing sight. The vibrant colors and delicate petals make it a captivating experience. A must-visit spot for nature enthusiasts and a tranquil oasis in Kamakura.
