Kondo — Restaurant in Kamakura

What a wonderful experience! I went for the 9-course dinner and each dish was amazingly crafted and exceptionally flavourful. I was a bit scared at first since I was travelling alone, don’t speak Japanese and was worried that they will serve me dishes that are too “exotic” for me. However, the owners were so sweet and welcoming to me, patiently showed me how to eat everything and pointed out special ingredients. They even had cards and menus with English explanations of the dishes, which was very helpful. The chef was also very friendly and explained his creations and ingredients via GoogleTranslate to me. Each course was perfectly curated, you can see that the chef puts a lot of detail in every single dish and the flavours were subtle and elegant, leaving room to taste the nuances and feel the texture of the exceptional high-quality ingredients. All in all, an impeccable and truly authentic experience - I will definitely come again if I have the chance!

Regarding reservations: It was easy making a reservation online. However, I would recommend going for an early reservation, since most of the restaurants close very early in Kamakura (it is very difficult to find a restaurant after 7pm). Since I did not know that, my reservation was for 7:30pm, which made me feel a bit bad for keeping all the staff around for my dinner. Really great restaurant with delicious food and lovely hosts and chef of kitchen. They have a halal menu, which serve great option to choose from. The food is freshly made and beautiful arranged, so also the eyes can enjoy the deliciousnes. The shop is cosy, with the option to sit in front of the head of kitchen and see how he prepares the food. It is really interesting to see. The staff in itself is also really lovely and helpful.
