The location can't be beat. On the main boulevard, just one minute to the Hachimangu shrine gate, maybe 7 minutes to the station. Restaurants, cafes, and shops all around, but with all that's going for it, they still offer really reasonable prices. And the rooms are unlike your usual tiny business-type hotels in Japan. They're quite roomy with sofa, TV, fridge, hot water server and quaint "antique" furniture pieces. The manager was even kind enough to let us check in hours early because the rooms had already been cleaned. Some hotels stick to their time table no matter what. No meals included but you can order out for delivery to your room. Again reasonable but there is also a convenience store across the street and a supermarket one block down toward the station so we just brought in our food because of the fridge. Of course, the best thing was the breathtaking view of the cherry blossoms in front of the hotel. The lanterns light up the boulevard at night. There's too much in Kamakura to cover in one day, so do yourself a favor and stay at the Shangrila for an unexpectedly...
