This small museum is located between the Nagamachi and Katamachi districts in Kanazawa. It’s located in a beautiful historic building that used to house a pharmacy. The museum showcases not only the historic items from the pharmacy, but also from other old businesses from the Kanazawa. Unlike some of the other museums in Kanazawa, most of the displays here have pretty decent English translations.
You will have to take off your shoes to see about over half the museum, and there are some rather steep stairs that you have to navigate to go see the displays upstairs. Read moreOne of the best museums in this area, especially for English speakers. All the signs are in Japanese and English, which is not common. I really enjoyed this museum because of the unique displays. It wasn't just an empty house; instead it has a massive display of handballs (embroidered balls that women made before they married), a floral display made of sugar which won a competition, and traditional medicines in the pharmacy shop display.
Wear socks since you will be walking through the house (no shoes). The garden is small but lovely and there are loaner geta (slippers) to go through.
