Beautiful walk in the park filled with different kinds of cherry trees. In case you missed it or plan to visit:This area was once a deserted place covered with shrubs and weeds until three hundred years ago. In 1886,it was designated as a park site and was created and enlarged. Why is this place important? This area used to be called Makuzugahara, then became known as a place of Japanese traditional Waka poems in the Kamakura period. During the Edo period, it was crowded as a part of entertainment quarters. In 1886. "Kyoto Maruyama Park opened as the oldest park in the city of Kyoto. The water was brought in from Keage via Lake Biwa Canal in 1895 (currently no longer in use). When we visited on March 28th,2025,all of the cheery trees were not yet fully blossomed but we still enjoyed it;you have benches to sit, small open market to buy snacks, and map designated refuge areas in case of an earthquake.

This is a public green space located behind the Yasaka Shrine in the Kyoto Higashiyama area. Good place for rest stop and slow stroll. It is most popular for cherry blossom viewing and sakura enjoyment.

We walked to these gardens one afternoon in September 2025. There were some nice parts such as the bridge over the lake and the streams, but we also noticed quite a few overgrown areas which surprised us. The cafe was a great spot to relax on what was a...
