The staff working there were friendly and helpful during our stay in Kyoto. They were more than willing to hold our bags prior to our check-in and upon our return arrival provided us with green tea. They provided us with a map and where to catch the local bus (#100) to Kyoto Station. And on check-out they were helpful to call us a taxi to the station. My wife and I booked a traditional room with two twin futons. The room contained its own private bathroom and a small fridge which contains two complimentary bottles of water bottles. They provide the guests with Yukata (traditional garments) that you can wear while staying and even as you go down to eat breakfast. The slippers they provide are definitely loose but you can ask for smaller sizes. The rooms contain WiFi and pretty decent speeds for basic emailing, texting or general web browsing. We had the traditional breakfast which was a great experience and the food was very tasty and more than enough to keep us full throughout until early evening. Note: You have to let me know in advance the day before if you don't buy it when you book your room. We didn't get a chance to try the dinner but will plan on it next time. The location is perfect since its near Maryuama Park in the Gion distric and walking distance to local shops and restaurants. My wife and I went during the cherry blossom season so they were multiple festivals that were going on in the park and we were able to enjoy the outdoors with out the hustle-n-bustle of Tokyo. Its about a 15-20min walk to the Nishiki Market which is also convenient. Note: There is a curfew of midnight, which was fine with us but for those looking to stay past midnight keep this in mind. All-in-all, glad we booked this place and enjoyed the experience during our stay and look forward to possible returning to Kyoto in the future. Would recommend to anyone going for the first time to Kyoto.

It was our first time staying in a Ryokan, and overall, the experience was underwhelming. For what they charge, I expected more. We stayed there for 2 nights and didn't get a chance to try the breakfast (and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day) which by the sounds of other reviews we didn't miss much anyway. The "breakfast" was open from 730 - 930, which is pretty late for someone who likes to start their day early to beat the crowds. The comforter was dusty, and the cover for it was more of a bed cover rather than a comforter cover. The shower floor tiles had black mold, which is the most harmful. The mold indicates that they do not do a thorough job cleaning the floor. On the plus side of things, this place was located in a convenient location, the staff was superb and they are the reason for the good reviews, the room was spacious and the accommodation wasn't too bad overall.

Sakanoue is located in Gion and the location is fantastic. Walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera, a shrine with a evening market and the main shopping streets of Gion. its not near the train station (have to take a bus from Kyoto station) but that is ok as Gion is a very nice part of kyoto to stay in. The staff is great. Attentive and hospitable. at least 1 staff will be around to greet you when you come and go. However, i do find this establishment overpriced for what it is. while the location is great, the rooms are very old and not well maintained. the bathroom is vintage and mould could be seen in all the corners. i was not comfortable taking a shower here. the bedding was uncomfortable. sad to say i did not get much sleep on all the days i was there.

|Outro ponto alto é a comida.
