Nishijin Asagi Museum — Attraction in Kyoto

A hidden gem of the world - renowned Nishijin Brocade as fine art. Nishijin - brocade is usually used for gorgeous obi and kimono, but here you can find most beautiful silk woven textiles as tapestries, framed works and panels. They received many prestigious awards for excellence. They are woven with a 1800 needle jacquard, and show how far they can achieve - some depict works of world painters such as Van Gogh and Monet, needless to say Japanese Ukiyo-e and Rinpa. It is all the more interesting, as they have woven texture. You can even find luminous woven works in the dark room!

Currently they run the special exhibition themed on the Tale of Genji, which is said to be the oldest novel in the world. (until Jun.30, 2024). It is astonishing that even old snaky Japanese letters were so neatly woven!

It is located on the 7th floor of the Tsukaki Square bldg, just in front of the Exit 6 of Shijyo station. A must see for all textile/fabric lovers and art...

Fantastic textile museum with unexpected bonuses! There’s a room with Ukiyoe prints by Hokusai & Hiroshige. Along with these is a fun chance to pose in your own Hokusai print! 💕 My 13 year old daughter even approved of this museum. Entry is very inexpensive ~ only ¥500 for adult! Definitely...

顯少有遊客會去的 #西陣織美術館 ，因為去了西陣喝了澡堂改建的咖啡，就更想一窺西陣織的厲害，恰好美術館就在下榻的Royal Park Hotel隔壁，花了¥500元就進去參觀了。

美術館位於大樓7F，要先在1F購票，工作人員知道我是台灣遊客，很訝議問我是怎麼知道這裡的？阿就剛好住隔壁酒店，地鐵站一上來就看到大樓有宣傳，想忽視也難呀！

空間格成好幾個展區，每一區都小而精美，從西陣織的歷史發展、工具原料、織造技法、成品展示，以金絲銀線臨摹織出畫作，甚至還將兩幅畫作拼織合成一幅，簡直比手機P圖還強！也陳列 #源氏物語 的相關作品，人形娃娃身上的衣服也都是出自西陣織。

怕你走馬看花，工作人員還免費提供導覽平板。最吸睛當屬夜光材質的織造作品，在黑安空間透著湛藍織紋，如波似濤，在底燈投設下，順走和逆走還會出現不同色彩！牆上著掛著夜光織造的世界名畫，居然能織出梵谷的星空，強！

西陣織的應用很廣，從船傳統的和服畫屏，到佛教的神明法相、西方名畫等，都可以用西陣織的手法呈現。因為沒什麼人，所以就慢慢欣賞了一小時。

（其實我是把衣服丟進酒店烘衣機，要烘一個小時，無聊打發時間，才意外走進西陣織美術館的。）
