We visited Nihondaira Yume Terrace in Japan with my family of seven, and it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The journey to the top was comfortable and not too long. The roads were well maintained, and as we drove up, we enjoyed beautiful views of the landscape around us. When we arrived, we were happy to find plenty of parking space, and best of all, it was free. That already made the visit feel welcoming and easy.

From the parking area, we took a short walk up to the terrace. Along the way, there was a small information section showing a short video that explained the history of Mount Fuji, the surrounding area, and the development of the Nihondaira Yume Terrace itself. It was simple but informative, giving us a better understanding of the place before we reached the viewing deck.

When we stepped onto the terrace, the view was breathtaking. The building is beautifully designed with warm wooden tones and wide glass panels that open up to an incredible panoramic scene. It feels calm, open, and peaceful. Even though the terrace was busy with visitors, everything felt organized and quiet in that very Japanese way.

Unfortunately, we could not see Mount Fuji clearly because it was covered by haze that day. It was a little disappointing, but the view of the city below and the rolling hills around us still made it worthwhile. The air was fresh, the weather was bright, and the whole place had a very relaxing atmosphere. We eventually saw Mount Fuji later from another location, so it felt like the trip still gave us the full experience in the end.

There were quite a few tourists at the terrace, including some elderly visitors walking slowly and enjoying the scenery. It was nice to see people of all ages appreciating the same beautiful view. On our way down, we noticed that visitors could either walk back or take a small buggy ride that cost just 100 yen per person. It was a short trip but very convenient for those who preferred not to walk, especially for families with children or elderly members.

Nearby, there is also the Nihondaira Ropeway that connects to the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, another well-known site. We did not have time to take the ropeway this time, but it is something I would like to try on my next visit. I have heard that the view from the gondola is stunning, especially on clear days when Mount Fuji appears in full view.

Before leaving, we walked around the grounds for a while. The area is clean, well planned, and surrounded by nature. The only small challenge was finding our car at the end, as there are several different parking zones spread across the area. They all look quite similar, so it is easy to get a bit confused. It helps to remember which section you parked in before exploring.

Overall, Nihondaira Yume Terrace is a beautiful place that combines modern architecture with nature in perfect balance. The building design enhances the scenery rather than distracts from it. Whether or not Mount Fuji is visible, the experience is peaceful and rewarding. It is a lovely stop for families and travelers who want to enjoy Japan’s calm beauty and take in a moment of quiet reflection above the city. Best to visit when sunny for best view...

Wonderful place to walk around with a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji when the weather is being agreeable. The wood deck is very nicely designed and the little display inside is cutely done. There is a small cafe inside the Terrace walkway with a sitting space that has a nice view of Fuji as well. However the cafe shuts at four, so it's difficult to go to the shrine via the ropeway and make it back in time for an afternoon snack.

There is a good sized carpark and the ropeway building has a small food area where you can buy a bit of lunch. However the menu is a bit limited and consists of things like katsudon and the local special Kinako soba. The soba was nice and has a slight mochimocho-ness(it's a bit chewy) to it. Despite being in Shizuoka, they used packet wasabi. That was a bit of a surprise. Generally though a nice easy relaxing way to enjoy a beautiful day. However it looks like it could get very busy on...

Actually, I went to Nihondaira last year, on December 30, 2024.

There are so many parking space so you don't have to worry about it. The place was really beautiful with a full landscape view of Mount Fuji.

There are also gift shops, matcha ice cream and taiyaki stalls, and restaurant.

Ropeway was available uphill if you want to experience it, but it was quite expensive.

For the route, if you arrive at Shizuoka Station, go to the bus stop No. 11 bound for Nihondaira Terrace. You also can use your IC card. The trip was about 1 hour and you will directly arrive...
