Hotel Reception: Warm Hospitality The hotel's front desk staff were incredibly professional and hospitable throughout our stay. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction, providing helpful recommendations and attentively addressing any requests we had. Their warm welcome set the tone for a truly memorable experience.
The Room: Magnificent Mount Fuji Views Our room was spacious and elegantly appointed, but the true highlight was the magnificent view of Mount Fuji that greeted us. We were thrilled to have chosen a room that allowed us to witness the majestic mountain in all its glory, especially as we enjoyed the welcome fruit plate, the seasonal Shizuoka crown melon, paired perfectly with the region's famous green tea. Watching the sunset over Mount Fuji from our room was undoubtedly the most relaxing and memorable part of our day.
Dining: Exceptional Japanese Cuisine We opted for the Japanese-style menu for both dinner and breakfast, and we were not disappointed. Every dish was exquisitely prepared, with flavors that perfectly captured the essence of traditional Japanese cuisine. The attention to detail and the high quality of the ingredients were truly impressive, making our meals at the hotel's restaurant a culinary delight.
Attentive Staff: Exceptional Service From the front desk to the restaurant staff, every member of the hotel's team was incredibly attentive and dedicated to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. Their genuine care and commitment to providing exceptional service was truly remarkable, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to experience their hospitality.
Nearby Attractions: Kunouzan Toshogu No visit to this region would be complete without a trip to the Kunouzan Toshogu, a historic shrine that offers a fascinating glimpse into Japan's rich cultural heritage. This is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in learning more about the country's history and the legacy of its greatest shoguns.

Read moreIt was wonderful to walk into my "superior Japanese-style room" and see Mt Fuji right there through the glass across the bay! The weather was kind for my two-night stay, and I was able to see Fuji-san the whole time I was there, whether from my bedroom, living room or balcony, or from elsewhere in or outside the hotel. As a photography enthusiast, I was very happy with the views I was able to capture. The experience was a major highlight of my 6.5 week trip.||The accommodation itself was great, very spacious, well-designed and aesthetically pleasing. Comfortable twin beds, good lighting and storage space, a living area with a Japanese table and four seats, all glass on the bay side to maximise the view, big tv, coffee machine with quality tea and coffee capsules as well as Japanese tea-making equipment, well-stocked mini-bar, safe, yukata, pyjamas and slippers...large bathing area with dual sinks, seating and the bath with the shower, and the toilet in separate rooms. An exquisite little bonsai plant. Wifi worked perfectly. There were sliding doors between the living area and bedroom for cosier sleeping. ||The hotel has six restaurants as well as a shop selling souvenirs and foodstuffs, and a spa. Travelling solo I often order room service or buy a meal to eat in my room, but that wasn't possible here and I found I enjoyed eating in "The Terrace" - excellent food and service, relaxed atmosphere and another Mt Fuji view. (I would've liked to try one of the Japanese restaurants, but I thought the set courses might be too much food for me.) I did buy some delicious biscuits from the shop to have in my room with a tea or coffee. The breakfasts, also in The Terrace, were very good.||The hotel's a lovely place to walk around, beautifully designed and pleasingly, sparingly ornamented, accented by some impressive bonsai. The Christmas decorations were nice too! There's an extensive outdoor/garden area. The staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful. There were no problems with luggage forwarding, and my departure taxi arrived before time. ||There's a free shuttle bus between the hotel, Higashi Shizuoka Station and Shizuoka Station. Hours vary - the first one into the downtown leaves around 10am. It takes 30-40 minutes and is a good way to go back and forth if you don't have your own vehicle. From the hotel you can walk to Kunōzan Tōshō-gū, Tokugawa Ieyasu's resting place. ||It was an absolute treat to stay at the Nippondaira, and I unreservedly...
Read moreThe first thing you notice is how grand and spacious the hotel is when you enter. Soaring glass windows at the lounge and dining areas enable you to look down upon the bay and the port of Shimizu. If you are lucky, you might even spy the notoriously shy Mount Fuji in the distance. The reception staff are also very welcoming and friendly and ready to help.||||The rooms also echo the spacious design of the main lobby. Roomy and comfortable. Then you notice some strange design choices. The bathrooms are tiny in comparison to the rooms. Another thing is the main dining areas. The seating capacities of the Japanese restaurant and Western restaurant downstairs are so limited. If you are hoping to sit down for a meal onsite and did NOT make a reservation, good luck! You would have to drive down or call for delivery because there is no room service available either! During breakfast, you have to write your name down on a list and wait maybe 15 or 20 minutes before they allow you to enter and eat. It is puzzling why they devote such a small space in this huge hotel to the dining area!||||You have to drive up a long and winding road before you can reach the hotel. Without a car, you would have to rely on their shuttle bus service or take a taxi to reach the town below. On the other hand, I did like the free...
