Garden Lounge — Restaurant in Shizuoka

Our lunch at the Garden Lounge was the pinnacle of our trip to Japan. After several busy days in Tokyo we ventured South west to get some air, to see the shore and (we hoped) to see Mount Fuji. We took a taxi to “the terrace” with its own spectacular views of Mt Fuji and then ventured the ~8 minute walk down to the Garden Lounge. Just walking in to the Garden Lounge, your breath is taken away by the floor to ceiling view of Mount Fuji. We arrived early afternoon - past lunch on a Friday and had no wait. While we were certainly blessed with a bluebird sky that day, each member of our family kept repeating “wow” at the view. The food (a beef “stew”, the beef and mushroom pilaf, the chef’s special, and the pasta and crab) were all mouth watering. The staff indulged our attempts to order in Japanese, but the whole facility was also filled with western comforts. The wine (per the glass) list was not expansive but the sommelier white white selection was the perfect match, a light and crisp Beaujolais Blanc without too much oak.
