Cold, rude and unhelpful staff Beware of the LAST bus to airport departure time (Sundays 18:25). The arrangement of the intervals of shuttle bus and lines of train transfer leave much to be desired
It was Sunday evening (2019/12/15), chilly and windy. We missed the last bus to the airport, so rushed to the information desk inside JR station, asking the train departure time and transfer details. The Japanese-speaking staff just threw a piece of paper on the desk, leaving few words, " READ IT BY YOURSELF!" She appeared distant, unwilling to give us a helping hand.
Excuse me?! As strangers and foreigners here, we knew nothing nearby, let alone the various lines of trains and transfers. The only thing that we approached the information desk was to ask ways of alternative transportation. How could it be possible that a staff just threw a piece of paper on the desk and left us alone? We asked a series of questions, e.g. How long is the ride? How much does it cost by taxi or by train? How far is it from jr station to another smaller station?... Unfortunately, she was reluctant to answer, just stood there, looking at us with a blank eye. I was too shocked to believe that we were at the information desk.
If she didn't wanna say anything, why did she stay in the information counter? No PASSION and ENTHUSIASM at all!!!
She might as well stay in the office, which will refrain from talking to passengers in need.
I don't think it's language boundary, for my travelmate speaks good Japanese. Despite that, we still got ignored, regardless of our helplessness.
Honestly speaking, the staff's attitude ruined our last day in 高松香川,regardless of the fond memories in 小豆島 Shodoshima previously.
If the authorities in Takamatsu do want to develop tourism industry and attract more overseas tourists, they should pay more attention to visitor-friendly policies, either improve limited shuttle bus between the airport and city center (finish too early on Sunday--18:25), or employ well-trained staff (no need to be fluent in English, but the...
Read moreCame after leaving Kotohira-gu, this is definitely one of the better looking train station I have seen in Japan. This station is part of Setouchi JR pass.
The original plan was to go to Ritsurin-en but I thought it was closed by at the time, around 5pm. Later I found out that they have a night illumination in the sakura season that extended the operating hours to 9pm until 6 April 2025.
Instead I went to the garden the next day and settled for watching the sunset at Takamatsu symbol tower and sun port fountain.

There is an information centre about trains bookings & confirmation(in case you need to make Shinkesan reservations, they can provide the service). The staff is very helpful, though English speaking was limited). There are convenient stores, cafes, restaurants (however most of the eateries will be closed...
