Small little temple tucked into the Yanaka area. Worth a quick pop-in visit for the grave of Yamaoka Tesshu for those who like Japanese history and for most people the picturesque golden Kannon statue that makes for some good photos particularly at sunset. It's free to visit the grounds but throughout the month of August for 500¥ (as of 2023) one can visit a special room to see hanging scrolls of ghosts some dating back nearly...

Direction le Zenshō-an (全生庵). Situé à Yanaka, ce temple, comme souvent, fut une surprise. Il n'était pas dans ma liste, à vrai dire.

Fondé en 1883 par Yamaoka Tesshū (山岡 鉄舟), également fondateur de l'école d'escrime Ittō Shōden Mutō-ryū, ce temple de l'école Rinzai est assez méconnu et, de prime abord, ne semble pas dîgne d'interêt. Toutefois, si vous entrez, vous pourrez y découvrir une magnifique statue de Kannon dominant le cimetière. Haute d'envitron 10 mètres, il s'agit d'un columbarium où sont déposées les cendres de personnes qui ne veulent pas imposer aux générations futures le fardeau des questions de succession et de l'entretien du cimetière. Le site indique d'ailleurs que tout le monde peut y postuler, quelle que soit sa confession.

The iconic gold statue was very eye catching. It located right in the middle of the graveyard. The temple was founded in 1883 by Yamaoka Tesshu, praying for those who died during the closing days of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
