Contemplating an extensive tour of Japan, we were seeking a comfortable abode wherein we could relax after our exhaustive travel itinerary was over in the Land of the Rising Sun, and perusing google our eyes fell upon the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel with enchanting pictorials of its splendor with manicured gardens and rooms affording picturesque views of the ocean, and we were enticed and decided to make a reservation at this hotel from the 24th April to 29th April 2025.|||| It has all the amenities and convenience that avail guests inclusive of an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with cascading waterfall, sauna, chapel, event halls, gym, facilities for guests to stay with pets and a shuttle service every 20 minutes to the Maihama station and back whilst organizing visits to Disneyland as its partner hotel, and constitutes a veritable microcosm of all needs met in a single facility for the enjoyment of a salubrious vacation in Japan.||||The Reservations team comprising Kaoru Shigeyama San, Bianca Ueda San, Nobuyuki Mitsuishi San and Asuka Munekata San were very prompt in replying to our queries from Sri Lanka via email and liaised seamlessly and expeditiously with prompt attention to even the most minute detail to ensure our booking was well looked after that offered ease of mind. The tips they provided on travel were most helpful to journey from developing Sri Lanka to highly developed Japan.||||We booked into the 12th Floor room that offers a panoramic view of Tokyo Bay with glimpses of ships docking afar and yachts cruising upon the sea. The dawn and sunset were beautiful from this altitude, and we looked forward daily to this inspirational unfolding. Mount Fuji could be seen from the far end of the corridor on a day of clear skies and adds a bonanza. Housekeeping was done regularly and amenities like soap, razors etc., were replenished in real time if utilized, and the room was always clean, well swept and neatly arranged. ||||Our meals were at the Club House that provides 24-hour dining with a happy time slot for free drinks, and thanks to Katsuyuki Tanimizu San and his team for looking after us and the other guests well. This restaurant offers picturesque views of Disneyland and environs of the town beyond, and it’s wonderful to see the fireworks display at Disneyland from the tall glass windows of this restaurant that lasts for almost half an hour at park closing time of 8.30 pm that illuminates the night sky in an amazing display of brilliant multiple color hues whilst leaving an incandescent trail in the sky for a few lasting minutes – no other venue in Maihama affords this spectacular luxury view I believe. ||||The restaurant staff mingle well with the guests with warm Japanese politeness and signature courtesy bows, and I even saw Katsuyuki San giving guests advice on how to travel to the places they like to visit as he knows English and is bilingual. This was an added gesture of appreciative kindness that went beyond his call of his duty.||||The staff in this hotel is conversant in foreign languages and guests have no problem in communicating their requests, and they go the extra mile by offering advice on safety, travel and public commute, particularly in visiting places by bus and train in Japan. I even saw hotel staff help guests by accessing google translator on their mobile phone to convert meaning from the guest’s native language to Japanese to be of better help on customer concerns. ||||On the night prior to departure, we were even able to have the weight of our luggage checked at the Bell Desk to ensure it was within the conformity of 30 kilos (cargo luggage) and 7 kilos (hand luggage) in keeping with the airline’s conformity of weight, and our journey to Narita Airport was conveniently possible via the Airport Limousine Bus that visits this hotel. ||||In Sri Lanka most public utilities are manually accessed but conversely in Japan the procedure is computerized and automated, and many engagements like dining, train seat booking etc., always require a prior reservation well in advance via app or web and the friendly hotel staff are quick to provide tips and advice on urban and country living in Japan. These little acts of kindness go a long way in establishing guest rapport and add brand value.||||Managing a five-star hotel of multi – faceted dimensions is a humongous task and thanks to the General Manager Mr. Killian Donoghue, whom I even saw clearing a guest table and assisting in the duties of the Club Lounge. ||||Further, my thanks to the hotel team comprising Kayoko Masuyama San, Kayoko Masuyama San, Yuki Fujita San and Masaya Okawa San for working synergistically with the GM and staff to offer guests superlative hospitality experience. ||||I also remember with gratitude the services of Mr. Elton Hurtis, the General Manager of the Courtyard Colombo by Marriott, Sri Lanka and Mr. Hemant Tenetti, the Market Vice President South and East India for granting the Friends and Family discount, and Ms. Hansini Peiris, the Senior Sales Manager of the Courtyard Colombo by Marriott for her indefatigable efforts with the reservation via the Bonvoy website which was unfamiliar to me and found difficult navigating. ||||Travelling from Sri Lanka to a developed country is challenging and I was in pensive mood and am thankful to Ken Ishiguro San, the General Manager of Aloft Tokyo Ginza with whom I connected whist browsing for hotels in Japan, and subsequently corresponded via email for instilling in me the confidence of superior brand presence of Marriot Bonvoy which constitutes a conglomerate of reputable brands in Japan. ||||I appreciate the kindness of Mr. Rajeev Menon, the President Asia Pacific excluding China of Marriott for being instrumental in offering us and Bonvoy guests superior experience of an inimitably great brand in global...
Read moreI booked a standard room as a gold member. Before check in I was upgraded to an Ocean dream room. Nothing significant but a category upgrade is an upgrade. Between upgrade and check in I also went up to platinum! It was great to see that this hotel features a separate check in lounge for Platinum and above members. ||||The hotel lobby and halls are pretty well-kept however you can tell by the rooms that the building is a bit on the older side. That said, the room was still nice and spacious by Tokyo standards with a balcony you can walk out onto with a view. From my room you could clearly see Disney Sea.||||The hotel itself is quite huge and the public areas are really nice. The main building has multiple restaurants on the first and second floors. The current main picture features the park area between the hotel and Tokyo Bay. There is also an annex building with various amenities such as a public bath, children’s play area, arcade, and coin laundry. I recall the washers were about 400 yen without detergent and 500 with detergent. There were dryers too however I am familiar with these type of dryers as not as powerful as those in the U.S. so I just hung up my laundry in my room. The public bath features hot bath, cold bath, and sauna and is normally not free however Platinum and above members can choose one free daily access as one of their benefit choices on check in which was appreciated. I recall that the other possible choices were free parking, one free hour at the children’s play area, and 30% off dining. At time of writing, Platinum members get two choices, Titanium three, and Ambassadors receive all four. For those such as myself who do not drive and have no children, you effectively only have the two options of the bath and restaurant discount which are, in my case, the most desirable anyway. ||||I checked out the Sheraton Club on the top floor which was really spacious and had a good array of food and beverage options for evening cocktail service. I also sampled breakfast which follows the typical theme of marginally less options in exchange for a quieter, more intimate experience and little to no wait. When I was still gold level this hotel also offered access to the club lounge during cocktail hours as a possible benefit choice which is very generous. ||||I checked out breakfast service in Toastina on the second floor as well as the Galleria Cafe on the first floor. My experience was that Toastina was largely the same as the club lounge breakfast and if you have access to the lounge you may as well just go there. The Galleria Cafe was the more typical “main” breakfast area that sometimes had a long wait however it did offer substantially more food options and is a good alternative to the other places if looking for a full breakfast.||||The hotel is located close to the Bayside Station of the Disney Resort Line which is where most of the resorts are in Maihama. There is also a free shuttle to Maihama Station from where you can take the Keiyo Line to Tokyo Station. I suggest leveraging the free shuttle when possible. The Disney Resort Line is also fine after the shuttle stops service for the day. Try not to stay out too late as once the Disney Resort Line stops running, you either have to take a taxi or are in for a long 30 minute walk. I remain of the opinion that Chiba (this Tokyo Disney area) is a bit too far for my taste if one is commuting daily to central Tokyo. The said, there is a good chance of getting a good price on a really nice hotel with many amenities such as this one versus paying more for less in exchange for no commute in central Tokyo. I must leave that decision to the reader, however if going to Tokyo Disneyland then really there is no better location than this area.||||I, admittedly, underestimated how much I would enjoy staying at this hotel. I’ve always been lukewarm on staying in Chiba and commuting to Tokyo. However, considering the spacious facilities, generous benefits, good service, and reasonable price I’m more open to returning...
