What an AMAZING PLACE. Recently visited this beautiful castle on holiday in Jersey and wow! We were lucky enough to see the castle from our hotel (see my review about that).

We first drove to the top and around the castle (as much as you can before you hit the sea), the views from up top are really relaxing and peaceful.

We came back a few days later and visited the castle. We were lucky enough to arrive 10 minutes before a guided tour. We paid for a guided tour (quite cheap compared to other castles I have visited) and was NOT let down. We had a lovely lady called Marlene (retired history teacher), who had a lot of information regarding the castle. The tour lasted around 2 hours but was free and provided a great insight to what the castle was like. (Thank you Marlene 👏👏👏).

The views from the top of the castle are unreal! I have not uploaded photos from my camera but have a few phone photos I will attach. You can see a lot of Jersey from the top and also see the French coast which is less than 20 miles away! It's really breathtaking and peaceful at the top of the castle.

I would highly recommend anyone who is in Jersey to visit this amazing castle. The history is very interesting and so is the structure of the castle. I would also recommend the tour but if you want to just free roam then you can as well. It will take you several hours to look around the castle and even longer if you read all of the history like I did. There are toilets and refreshments available on site too.

You can also walk down to the small village below, there is exactly food and JERSEY ice cream there 🥳🥳🥳

I would rate this castle 10/10 and my favourite one in Jersey!

Thank you to all of the staff, very friendly,...

A must visit if you are in Jersey! There are three castles on the island, however with this one being on the east coast, you will get stunning views of the coast of France! it takes about 2 hours to explore the castle and there are lots of steps. This is not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties or those who need extra assistance. I would also recommend taking a bottle of water if the sun is out, you will be very warm by the time you reach the top! The castle is over 800 years old, with fascinating history to it. From the times of William the conqueror to the German occupation of the island in WW2. It has been beautifully kept, and there are hundreds of areas to explore in the castle and the grounds itself. You can book tickets online, however we purchased our tickets on arrival from the entrance which was easy to do. If you are going to visit more than one attraction they do offer a discounted ticket for 3 attractions, and it does work out as a saving to you. So check this out if you want to visit the castle, maritime museum and another attraction on the offer. With stunning views of the island, France and the bays, this is a fantastic attraction on the island and I would highly recommend to anyone interested in history, castles or those looking for something fun and interesting to do while in Jersey. Castle is easy accessible by bus, with the bus stopping right in the town...

Really impressive castle, protecting inhabitants and surrounding gentlefolk for centuries.

We climbed up to the castle from the corner of Gorey pier after getting the bus to Gorey.

There are rather a lot of steps and there is a more ramp-like access from the other side of the harbour. However it is a castle meant to keep people away so it was never going to easy was it?

Once you ascend to the gate there is a friendly staffed entrance hut to take your money and allow access to the rest of the castle.

When we went it was very windy (which can be an issue in Jersey in general).

The castle grounds are made up of areas separated by walls and once you arrive at the keep it gets a bit confusing as to where you are and where you have been. I'd like to think this was part of the fun of such a building designed for protection from aggressors. Lots of info panels to help you understand the history and how the building was developed.

The visit was "topped off" quite literally by visiting the very upper levels of the keep. With views of much of the east coast of Jersey and on a clear day like we had, France. Do be carefull if it is a windy day though as you are quite exposed on the top of this daunting keep! Hold on to your kids, frail old people and belongings!

Fantastic taste of the history of castle building...

Other wise known as Gorey Castle - its absolutely stunning! There is so much to explore and there are fun bits of artwork scattered about. When we were there, there was an option to join a talk right at the entrance for an introduction to the castles history which I really recommend as there aren't loads of staff to ask around the castle. The signs are difficult to read at times and need replacing so it does mean there are bits of history we'll never know, but that really doesn't take away from how beautiful and fun it is to explore. There's a great kids play ground quite near the entrance which is designed in the style of a medieval building contraption which we thought was super fun for the kids to pretend they're building the castle! Some of the stairs are quite precarious, especially the ones down to the very basement of the castle, so if you struggle with steps I would avoid those (there's not much down there so you're not missing out) There is a tea room on the site near the entrance and that seems to be the only one, so if you want a tea, grab it then!
