I visited Luang Prabang last week and stayed at the Luang Say Residence for 4 nights. At first I was a bit surprised as I thought the premise to be well out of town which it is not. It is on the outskirts of the historic heart of town. That said I really enjoyed my stay as the property is very generously laid out with a lot of room to breathe. This gives it more of a resort feeling than just a hotel. The room was ever so charming and so spacios and the garden too is so generous and at night you hear all sorts of animal noises a bit like in a jungle. The colonial feel about the place is stunning and very authentic considering that these buildings are not historic. They really ooze colonial charm. Wonderful breakfast on the terrace which is circulating around the main dining room. Just like in good old days, The staff are really wonderful. Be it at reception , be it the shuttle driver, be it at the restaurant. Smiling, friendly, polite helpful..the wonderful Asian hospitality we all love so much. I want to say thank you to Mr Khamhoung the driver which was looking so friendly after me when I needed a lift. Then the ever so polite and helpful staff at reception Mrs. Phonchan and Bird and of course Mr Lan who served me breakfast with his two girls always attentive, polite and never without a welcoming smile. I wish them all the best and thank them again for making my 4 nights memorable. Also housekeeping with the fabulous turning down service. I come back to my room and all the shutters were close and the curtain drawn and the moscito net spread carefully around my bed.So brilliant. I slept like a prince in this very comfortable bed. Thank you all again it was a wonderful stay and when I come back to Luang Prabang I will certainly stay again there. One little remark I would like to make about the garden. It looks lush and dark green and compared to the photos on booking.com the trees have grown considerably making it a bit gloomy. I think it would be great to bring it back to a more airy look. But this is a personal taste of mine. Thanks all it has been brilliant and I hope to come back...
Read moreThis hotel has a main building with lobby, bar and restaurant. In the park there is a large swimming pool. There are also 8 pavilions. Each pavilion has 4 rooms: 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. Some pavilions are named after French pioneers of French Indochina. We had a room on the first floor in the pavilion named after Auguste Pavie.
The room is large and beautiful. The bathroom is large and beautiful. There is a balcony with 2 chairs and a table.
On the balcony there is a metal wire which you can pull out and connect to a hook on the railing. You can use this metal wire to hang up your wet swim suit when you have been to the swimming pool.
Breakfast was included in the price of the room. It was delicious.
There is Wi-Fi all over the hotel. It is free and it works well.
The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The manager showed up at our table when we were having breakfast the first morning. He wanted to meet us and talk to us. This was a very nice gesture.
(In most hotels you never get to see the manager. Even if you try.)
The hotel has more than a dozen bicycles which are available to guests for free. With a bicycle you can ride all over Luang Prabang.
The hotel has a free shuttle service which runs between the hotel and the post office (in the evening). This is very convenient.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We would like to stay there again if we can.
There were some minor flaws:
(1) There is no towel rack in the bathroom. We had to use the chairs on the balcony to hang up our wet towels.
(2) The water tap in the shower is unusual. There is only one switch for pressure and temperature. There should be one switch for pressure and one switch for temperature.
(3) The bikes do not have a basket to carry anything. Most of the bikes are not equipped with a light in front and rear. You can only ride in the daytime and you must carry your stuff in a backpack.
PS. In the high season this hotel is very expensive. In the low season you can enjoy the place for a much...
Read moreThe facilities are old, but the atmosphere is good and well-maintained, and it was a hotel where you can relax. It's located a bit far from the tourist attractions, but it's also a good escape from the hustle and bustle. I don't mind walking, so I went out on foot from the hotel, but even if you can't walk, tuk-tuks and app taxis are convenient. Breakfast was not a buffet style, but a format where you could choose what you like and have it cooked, but there was no one else every time, so it may not be possible to have a buffet due to cost. However, it was very good because they responded to my request even if it was not on the menu.
According to the hotel information, there are 20 detached suite rooms (PIONEER SUITE) and 4 rooms in the main building (EXPLORATOR SUITE). I tried to reserve the most expensive Executive Premier Twin Room, but I couldn't understand the price difference with the EXPLORATOR SUITE at all. There was no extra bed and only 2 sets of towels were prepared until I requested it, even though I stayed with 3 people and an extra bed charge of $60 was added per night before tax. The free fruit in the room, which is listed in the accommodation details, was not offered even once during my three night stay, and the dishes that were on the table when I checked in were left as they were until I checked out. There were only 2 sets of tableware. I don't know if it's a problem with the price setting on the accommodation reservation site, but even if you choose a higher price for a similar room on the same site, the content will be the same, so if you choose the cheapest one and make a reservation is better.
I wrote a review on Agoda because I made a reservation with Agoda, but it will not be published for a long time because it is censored, so I...
