From Noyi at 3 Nagas to Micky, Jed, Thone and Nalin at the Sofitel front desk to Thong, Phiew, Vuth, Klam La, Phem, Phei, Nau, Joy, Kao, and Souk to the manager - the staff made, MADE, our stay.
I mean exceptional service standards.
I would choose to stay at the Sofitel LP over any other hotel in SEAsia.
Grounds - even if a leaf falls down, the groundsmen clear them. They then use them in trashcans around the hotel. Very smart! The grounds are very well kept. So many varieties of trees and plants. Nice lighting decor. Very wel designed swimming pool with ample sitting areas. Buildings - French colonial/Lao style buildings straight out of a movie set. I mean, they look beyond real. The lighting at night also do them justice. I was taking more pictures of the building that other stuff in LP! Room - very well designed. Separate sleeping, vanity, bathing, toilet areas - multiple people can use different sections of the room independently. The garden at the back with the bathtub was the cherry on top! The turndown and morning services were spot on. Reception - really nice staff. Very informed. Extremely helpful in all areas. Micky was the standout here. I hope she excels fast because we need more people like her in the hospitality industry. Restaurant - the decor is tent style with very intricate details in the teak and bamboo furniture. The food was very, very tasty - Buffalo burger I had was flavorful - with proactive service. Dedicated staff. Spa - spacious with aircon. Good staff members with experienced hands. Transfers - the car and driver (Boy?) were both top notch. On time. Clean. Comfortable. Boy was very helpful in pointing out shops. 3 Nagas - Noyi at 3 Nagas was a gem. Extremely kind. Very helpful. Afternoon Tea - nice selection of waffles, pancakes, cakes, and teas/coffees. Breakfast - I had the LP breakfast everyday for 4 days. It was that good! The service was, again, without fail, proactive and lively. The staff interacted very well. I got to know almost everyone on the team. Epitome of Lao hospitality with international standards! Cooking Class - I had my grandma do the cooking class. She LOVED it. She made 3 dishes and they tasted very well! A young Lao girl from the full service kitchen does a very professional and personable job. I highly recommend it.
Without doubt, Sofitel LP is, by far, the best hotel I’ve...
Read moreOur stay had a lot of high points and a lot of low points.Starting with the high points, the grounds and room were incredible. Our experience at the spa was one of the best we’ve had. The cocktails and Laos-style burger we had for lunch one day were phenomenal. The staff were charming and very accommodating. However, there were a few aspects that were far below the experience expected of a 5 star hotel. First, cocktail service around the pool was abysmal. On almost every occasion we had to go searching for a staff member to take our order, and then the cocktails more often than not took more than half an hour to arrive. This is despite the fact that we seemed to be the only people ordering F&B at that time, i.e. they were not busy at all. Second, the breakfast was a disappointment every day - we were told we could order eggs or noodles, and had to repeatedly press the staff to find out what type of eggs and noodles, and we only discovered on the last day that there was a menu with additional options. We ordered poached eggs on toast, and the eggs had not been drained of excess liquid, and the bread was entirely soaked through. An order of waffles took over an hour to come out - first it was delivered as a pancakes, and then they just forgot about it despite repeated follow ups. The “local” Laos options lacked flavor - very little of the herbs and spice that makes Laos food great. I think this and the pool service issue are primarily the result of a lack of training and instruction for staff - they were clearly doing their best, but did not know what to do. Third, the pool area needs a lot more spent on maintenance. The decking is cracking and falling apart. The mosaic tiles in the pool are falling apart, A LOT of the tiles are missing, and I got a very large laceration on my forearm from the sharp edge of a tile sticking out. If this pool were in a western jurisdiction, it would not meet health and safety standards.Fourth, the gym was not worth visiting if you want to lift weights. Possibly the worst weights offering I’ve seen for a hotel of that price and with that much space. We want to reiterate how great and enthusiastic the staff were. I think this is primarily a management oversight, training, and maintenance...
Read moreI spent a week at this hotel to celebrate both the Lunar New Year and my birthday. Drawn by its rich history, stunning architecture, and Sofitel’s high-level service, I arrived with high expectations—and the experience exceeded them. From the moment I stepped inside, the hotel exuded luxury, relaxation, and quality. The blend of Lao-French architecture is not only elegant but also thoughtfully designed to harmonize with the environment. With just 25 rooms, the hotel never feels crowded. The on-site restaurant, Governor's Grill, serves exquisite cuisine from morning to evening. One detail I particularly appreciated was the serene breakfast buffet—never overcrowded, allowing me to select my meal without having to squeeze past other guests. The pool area is a perfect retreat for reading and relaxation, though the water was a bit chilly in January. A delightful surprise was the presence of rabbits roaming freely around the property, adding a charming and unique touch to the atmosphere. The hotel offers a variety of tours and activities, two of which I experienced: a visit to Kuang Si Falls—breathtaking and absolutely worth it—and “The Legend of the Lost Treasure.” The latter was an interactive adventure involving a map and a diary filled with clues leading to the lost treasure of Luang Prabang. It was both educational and fun, though I found it somewhat challenging. At one point, my slower progress led Leng from the hotel to check in on me, ensuring everything was okay. With a little assistance, I eventually solved the mystery and was warmly greeted at the final location by the ever-cheerful Ms. Tou, who shared intriguing insights and helped me complete my quest. It was a memorable experience. My birthday celebration was something I will never forget. The hotel manager, Andrew, along with a few staff members, arrived at my door with a birthday cake, singing "Happy Birthday." It was a wonderful surprise, made even more special by a thoughtful gift and an artfully arranged message on my bed. Now that I’m home, I already find myself longing to return—and I'm already planning...
