Visited in May 2025. Laos. Luang Prabang.
Nestled just outside the center of Luang Prabang, this restaurant offers a beautiful and secluded escape. The stunning grounds, complete with a private pond and an abundance of lush greenery, create an enchanting atmosphere, further enhanced by the open-air seating arrangement.
Food:
The restaurant presents a modern interpretation of traditional Lao cuisine. The menu, while concise, offers a compelling selection of dishes. In order to fully appreciate the culinary scope and sample a broad spectrum of flavors, we opted to try several different items. The meat-stuffed peppers are highly recommended: succulent, spice-infused meat encased in a perfectly crisped pepper, the spices lending a piquant and intriguingly complex flavor profile. The lemongrass chicken patties were slightly less appealing, as the ground meat contained some undesirable gristle. The pork ribs were well-prepared, the sauce and spices complementing the flavor of the meat admirably, although the meat itself could have been more tender. As an appetizer, we also sampled the crispy rice salad, which I would also recommend: the delicate, yet crunchy, rice, enhanced by crispy garlic and an array of spices, was a textural and flavorful delight. We were also impressed by the fish in banana leaf; the fillet remained moist and tender, while the lemongrass infused the otherwise bland white fish with a distinctive zing.
Service:
The service was impeccable, rivaling that of a five-star fine-dining establishment. The waitstaff were highly professional and attentive, offering insightful menu recommendations, and generally providing exceptional service throughout our meal. The complimentary amuse-bouche was a welcome and appreciated touch.
Conclusion:
If you appreciate comfort, excellent service, and delicious, high-quality food, this restaurant provides an outstanding introduction to the national flavors of Laos. While it undoubtedly represents a "safe" and potentially somewhat Westernized rendition of local cuisine, it stands out as one of the best and most enjoyable dining experiences Luang Prabang has to offer. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment; the prices are slightly above average, but the overall experience is well worth...
Read moreThe staff let this place down big time. It’s very expensive and the quality of service is abysmal. I will never come back.
It was my last night in Luang Prabang and I didn’t have a reservation so I chanced walking in with my partner to see if they had a free table. It was about 6:20pm so we thought because it’s early we should have a good chance.
We went to the three women who were front of house and they asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, there was an awkward pause of a few seconds where they looked us up and down and said the restaurant is fully booked.
I walked two steps back out the front door and because of the weird looking us up and down moment inside I decided to see if I could make a reservation. Fortunately there was a booking available for 6:30pm. (i.e a few mins from when we walked in originally) So I booked the table and walked back inside.
I told the staff I made a reservation outside and they proceeded to tell me that it didn’t matter and the restaurant was fully booked. (How was this different to me having a reservation the first time around?)
Eventually after 1-2 mins of flustering and chatting amongst themselves, one of the women left and went to find us a table. To our surprise about 50/60% of the restaurant was empty and stayed that way throughout our whole meal. We sat down and from then on a few of the men that served us appeared to be laughing and talking about us at every interaction and it made our meal really terrible.
The food was fine but not worth the money either. Go somewhere else and save...
Read moreService here was unparalleled to anywhere else I have been in Luang Prabang... not just good service but service with a smile (exceptional service). I came in without reservation as a single diner, just after dinner rush, on a Saturday and was seated in the lounge approximately 20 seconds before I was escorted to my table. Drink menu provided immediately; my drinks arrived and amuse buche arrived within one minute following.
I did not care for the amuse buche: sticky rice with unfamiliar garnish atop a leaf meant to be dressed with unseasoned peanuts folded and eaten as a bite. The leaf stuck in my teeth, and the dish simply was not appealing in any way. However, my main course was delicious and should not be overlooked if you like lettuce wraps.
I ordered fried river greens for my starter course, which came garnished with fried garlic and a chili paste on the side to spread onto the greens (think deep-fried thicker version of nori sheets). The paste was a bit stiff, so I loosened with the juice from fresh squeezed lime. My modification to the spread accented its spiciness and added flavor. For the main course, I ordered Buffalo laab but pictured is mushroom salad which I don't recommend, by the way.
Total bill 38 US dollars (including tax and tip) for 3 courses & 4 vodkas, bottled water, and a soda. This is higher than you will pay for food anywhere else in Luang Prabang, but 50k kip for alcohol (Hanoi vodka) is cheaper than most places here bc it comes from country next...
