Durch den Umbau zum Lagerraum wurde zu Sowjetzeiten der Charakter der Kirche durch Betonpfeiler und zwei im Hauptschiff eingezogene Zwischendecken völlig zerstört. Bis Dezember 2018 stand sie leer und dem Verfall preisgegeben, jetzt ist das Dach repariert und es gibt wieder eine zahlreiche Gemeinde, die sich um die Instandsetzung bemüht. Führungen durch alle Stockwerke und die Kellerräume finden immer Donnerstags statt. Wir kamen an einem Freitag, als eigentlich geschlossen war. Eine sehr freundliche ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiterin, die an diesem Tag für eine Hochzeit und eine Taufe anwesend war, hat trotzdem die Kirche geöffnet, uns sehr viel zum Schicksal des Gotteshauses erzählt und uns noch zum Kaffee eingeladen.
