Overall: this was a beyond disappointing dining experience and feel the restaurant is quite deceitful in its overall web presence. Would advise any future guests and travellers to avoid!
What we ordered: 358 RM 9 course 'surprise' chefs tasting menu + non alcoholic drinks pairing
Service: Overall the servers were nice, but not very professional. They understood very little about the food they were serving. The server we had, omitted certain items on our plate and when probed further about them would only be able to tell whether they are edible or not (not whether they were part of the taste of the dish). So overall, very rehearsed and robotic service... didn't feel natural, was definitely not happy about the automatic 10% service charge on the meal!
Food: Overall the food quality was poor and not worth the money. The flavours were boring and we had some flavours repeat over a few courses, which u don't expect when offered a chefs supposed 'surprise' tasting menu. The food was hardly fit for fine dining with very rudimentary presentation, on one course we had to half deshell a prawn, which is not expected when fine dining.
Drink: the drinks which were paired with didn't really match the flavours in our food. They all tasted the same with a lot of them tasting of varied fruits mixed through sprite. They were also not introduced in detail by our server..
Portion size: The portions were also very tight...my girlfriend wasn't even full after 9 courses. Some courses were embarrassingly small.
Ambience & setting: The view off the external balcony is a slight redeeming feature of this venue. But there is overall a lack of attention to detail by the staff in the dining atmosphere. We heard utensils being washed behind the open bar, the reception mobile going off often & loudly. The bathroom was also unfit for a fine dining venue in terms of decor and the soap dispenser hadn't even been filled. The background music in the dining room was a loop of Christmas carols quite noisy, noticeable...
Read moreFarquhar Mansion has been listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site since 2008. This old building houses the Farquhar Mansion Penang Fine Dining & Lounge which serves a mix of French & Contemporary cuisine. The dining areas on the ground floor have been decorated with plush colonial style furnishings like satin drapes and velvet chairs. The flooring retained the original sexe-en- trent colourful tiles. Located upstairs are more dining rooms with a banquet room. The decor here is contemporary and the ceiling has a collage of framed pictures, several of them op- art. I attended a birthday dinner in the banquet room on 27 April 2019 and enjoyed "The Ultimate Chef Tasting Menu" which consisted of French/Contemporary cuisine. The nouveau cuisine had contrasts in flavours, textures and tastes that challenge the taste buds. Food was artistically presented with designs and colours on plates like paintings. A lot of thought would have gone into the creation of each dish. The Maitre' d' explained what each dish consisted of when each course was served. Food was fresh and good. Food gourmets would be able to differentiate the subtle differences of the flavours of each dish and appreciate the creativity of the artistically presented food and the wafting flavours to encourage the tasting. For those expecting the traditional flavours of French cuisine be surprised by a few extra "punch" in these dishes. Highly recommended for those adventurous enough seeking something different and be prepared to pay for the experience. Service was good and staff...
Read moreWe had a lovely afternoon tea here. Beautiful set up overlooking the sea. Delicious savory course, sweet pastries and scones. Tea selection is great too! They’re using one of my faves - ronnefeldt.
Im surprise by the quality of the savories - hands down! Im just not a fan of a little bit of sourness from the Dream a Little Dream of Strawberry and Apple Chimney. But still good. Eventhough they dont serve clotted cream for the scone - would still rate this 5. Because the scone itself is tasty alone. It has almonds and cranberries. If its just a normal scone i wouldnt love it - cause i need cream on my scone. I requested for the cream but the staff heard butter so i say alright sure butter it is. I finished the scone before the butter arrived but thats okay.
We had the tea time on xmas and the theme is just so cute. Xmas tree and winter polar bear inspired sweets. Love love love!
They gave us complimentary truffle bomb chocolate and it was the bomb! The staff said its because my friend posted in social media. Those little gestures that sums up an overall experience is amazing.
The staff btw are so polite and very attentive! They never missed to refill out teas and always help you to pull the chair when you are about to sit.
I love the experience here. Its great and memorable for us since it’s xmas. So glad i found this and i did a very great job on...
