It was a cloudy Thursday when we visited the famous Bukit Bendera. Many tourists including some primary school students from Singapore (recognizable from their uniform) were queuing for the funicular train, kind of reminded me the train at Wellington cable car), but this one is on a steeper slope. It probably just took 6- 8 min ride to reach the peak. The queue took about 15 minutes at the time, though. Up at the hill, the temperature up at the hill was very different from decades ago (went up there before about 20 years back). I could sweat easily if there was no wind or breeze. That's why the best activity was visiting the famous Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (PHBR) called The Habitat, where we could have more shades from the sunlight. There were few water coolers for visitors to refill their bottles for hydration. I visited the toilets, quite good maintenance. These facilities located near Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk, a must go for this attraction. But there were some maintenance works on the site that we could not access the bridge at canopy walk. One needs to practice extra caution with wildlife as we encountered a snake by the walk path, looked venomous from it's colorful scale. We had a chance to see a few monkeys on the trees. The entrance fee for the visit is RM60 for adult. I think it worths the price is you're a lover for wildlife and nature. Out from the reserve, there was a nice cafe for visitors to chill, along with some souvenirs displayed for sale. Ticket holders could have their free ride on buggy back to Penang Hill Upper Train Station.

Penang Hill, also known as Bukit Bendera, is one of the top attractions in Penang, Malaysia. It offers breathtaking panoramic views, cool weather, and a mix of nature, history, and adventure. #### **Pros:** Amazing Views** β The hill provides a stunning view of George Town and the surrounding areas, especially during sunrise and sunset. Cooler Climate** β Due to its elevation (about 833m above sea level), the temperature is noticeably cooler than in the city. Funicular Train Ride** β The steepest funicular railway in Malaysia takes you to the top in just a few minutes, offering a unique experience. Nature & Wildlife** β Lush greenery, walking trails, and the chance to spot local wildlife like monkeys and exotic birds. Attractions & Activities** β The Habitat (eco-park with canopy walks), Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk, Owl Museum, and historical sites like David Brownβs Restaurant & Tea Terraces. Crowds & Long Queues** β Weekends and holidays can get very busy, leading to long waiting times for the train. Pricey Tickets** β The funicular train fare for foreigners is higher compared to locals. Weather-Dependent** β Views can be obscured by fog or rain, so check the weather before visiting. Penang Hill is a must-visit if you enjoy scenic views, a cooler climate, and a mix of nature and history. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and enjoy the best views.

Visiting Penang Hill was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we boarded the funicular train, we were treated to breathtaking views of lush greenery and panoramic vistas stretching out to the azure sea below. The journey up the hill was both exhilarating and scenic, offering plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Upon reaching the summit, we were greeted by a refreshing cool breeze and a myriad of attractions to explore. The viewing platforms provided uninterrupted views of George Town and beyond, allowing us to marvel at the beauty of Penang from above. We also took the time to visit the historic colonial-era bungalows, which offered a glimpse into Penang's rich heritage. One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the lush botanical gardens, where we were surrounded by a kaleidoscope of tropical flora and fauna. The tranquil atmosphere was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, allowing us to unwind and reconnect with nature. Overall, our time at Penang Hill was nothing short of magical. The stunning scenery, rich history, and abundance of activities make it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Penang. Whether you're a nature lover, history buff, or simply seeking a memorable experience, Penang Hill has something for everyone.

Tourist trap. Avoid. This was the worst thing we've seen during our 3 week trip. Organization is absolutely horrible. We came around 14, they told us it would be 2 hour wait, however on the ticket it stated estimated time as 15:25. This of course kept moving further away, but they don't tell you exactly so you kind of have to sit at the station. There is nothing to do there. We went away for an hour to grab food, came back, had to wait another 30 minutes to go in. However, going in means they put you in one hour long que inside the building where there's even less to do than outside. They don't fully fill the trains so wait much longer than necessary. You come to the top and out of 2 view decks one was closed! Of course they don't notify you of this anywhere. much of the walk on the hill is next to a road with cars and buggies passing by, so much for peaceful nature. It's like a cheap circus up there. Artificially build mediocre businesses. And best part, you have the same hour+ wait when going down. This is absolutely ridiculous. The time you waste in their stupid ques, does not compensate for the view. It's not worth it. And all because they are unable to organize. If I could give a negative rating I would.

After such a long time (the last visit was in 2018), not much has changed, except that more facilities have been provided. As a Penang-born native, I highly recommend everyone to visit here and experience taking the train to the peak of Penang Hill. Alternatively, you can also try hiking up and taking the train back down. At the top, there is a mosque and a Hindu temple. In addition, there is also a food court, restaurants, and the famous Kopi Hutan cafΓ©. I recommend trying the various types of shaved ice and char kuey teow at the food court, as the prices are reasonable. A friendly reminder: there are many other interesting attractions here, but some require an entrance fee. For example, The Habitat (a canopy walk with a mountain view and diverse flora and fauna) costs RM60 per person. Be sure to prepare extra cash for each attractions. The view from Penang Hill is the best part for me.
