We stayed at one of two Ground level annex rooms, with the whole bungalow occupied by other family members. The annex rooms are interconnected with the main bungalow.||The Good: The view, the view AND the view!||The location is also excellent as it is, to my knowledge, the nearest to the Penang Hill summit focus point and funicular station (about 5 mins walk) where you can find food and places to chill. You don't need to wait for a buggy or 4WD rides, just get out and start walking, which is what we should be doing when in Penang Hill anyway.||There are only 5 rooms with a host (Brandon) and 2 housekeeping staff, Hamid & Hamidah, who stay in. They were very attentive to all our needs.||The room we stayed in (named 'Tiger') was spacious, modern and was equipped with a water filter which dispensed hot, room temperature and cold water. We were also supplied with 2 aluminium water bottles, with the Eythrope logo, and they were complimentary for us to use and take home. Cool!||The hotel arranged for a catered grill dinner which was very enjoyable due to the cool weather, the exclusivity and the VIEW (again). Mornings were also great to watch the sunrise and Georgetown and Butterworth coming to life at the start of another new day. It's quite new, only opened last year.||The Bad: None really, perhaps one gripe would be the bathroom which did not have a shower screen, so the floor became wet easily. I later learnt that our room is actually designed as accessibility friendly i.e. it is able to accommodate those with mobility issues. So, that's understandable, although we prefer dry bathrooms. The other rooms, I understand, do have shower screens.||Overall, this is a definite recommendation to stay for a night, better still, two nights, like what we did. We also like the change of pace the minute we walked inside the Eythrope grounds and the expensive deck really helped us to get us into the mood of being "away from it all". The rooms are not cheap, but the romantic view and location more than makes up for it, easily....

Read moreStunning oasis as someone else here said. I love love this place! It was my second time here in May, the first time being over Christmas when I hosted family. Had such a great experience that I brought some friends over from Singapore for a weekend recently who all loved it too. I've always liked being up in Penang Hill but being able to stay at a place which has been elegantly renovated with a conservationist stance by the local family owners is rather special. Understated and updated with mod-cons, surrounded by greenery with a stunning view overlooking Penang makes it all round a fabulous weekend getaway, given it is just a 20minute jeep ride from the Botanical Gardens. The villa was built over a hundred years ago but it has been recently renovated. However the renovations have not been overdone so there are some charming remnants from the past like the original wooden doors and shutters. The garden is lovely with over a hundred species of local orchids. The evenings were marvellous with temperatures around 21-22 degrees and we dined al fresco on the balcony. One rainy day, the owners managed to connect us at short notice to the local masseur to come up the hill so that we got foot reflexology & massages for the group! Very special place and I am looking forward to my next stay. And indeed the very speedy wifi has me thinking of coming back for a few days to work in the serene and calm...
