During a recent short vacation, my wife and I stumbled upon the War Museum—Kerapu Bank in Kota Bharu. As avid museum-goers, we were eager to explore its offerings. Conveniently, there was a free parking lot adjacent to the museum, just a brief two-minute walk away.
Upon entering, we noticed the ticket attendant was engrossed in a loud video and seemed indifferent to our presence, which made us feel unwelcome. This lack of hospitality was a bit disappointing, especially considering the presence of international tourists.
The museum itself provides a comprehensive overview of the Japanese invasion of Malaya, starting with their landing in Kelantan on 8 December 1941, marking the beginning of the occupation.
The exhibits detail the subsequent colonization period and the development of Kelantan post-war. The upper floors showcase artifacts such as old typewriters, photographs, and maps, offering a tangible connection to the past.
Revisiting this historical narrative, which I had learned about years ago in school, was both refreshing and enlightening. The museum serves as a valuable resource for understanding the history, culture, and resilience.

Overall, it was a good experience. We got to learn a lot about the history of Kelantan & Malaysia, which was quite interesting.
However, the toilet smell was really off-putting. It was so bad that I had to cover my nose and move far away from the area. The odor even spread into the hall, which was unpleasant.
