Monumen Alaf Baru or Millennium Monument is a national monument symbolizing Malaysia's journey into the 21st century. The monument stands tall at 68 meters and is uniquely designed to resemble a hibiscus flower, Malaysia's national flower. It also features a timeline of significant events in the nation's history etched into its base. Locally, it is often called Monumen Alaf Baru. This stunning symbol of national pride, is an architectural gem in Putrajaya. Its sleek design and towering presence are a sight to behold. I especially enjoy visiting during sunset, when the golden hues light up the surroundings, and the gentle breeze adds to the serene atmosphere. It's the perfect time to relax and take in the beauty of the monument.

Was staying nearby and fortunate enough to have enough time to dedicate to a proper visit to this monument. The story of Malaysia is told on a sequence of engraved glass panels alongside the walkway that circles the lower sections of the tower, and there are facts and connections that will surprise and educate even the historians. I spent about an hour at the monument and for me this was time very well spent. The monument is away from the normal places that visitors go to, but well worth a detour. Or, if you are going to be in Putrajaya anyway, it's a must do. Entrance is free.

While the monument structure itself was a little rundown, it was still in relatively good condition. What made the area look bad is the nearby structure for the non-operating Skyrides office. It looks like it has been closed for a long time and it's an eyesore. It should be removed. At the monument, you can see the history of the country from the 1800s right up to 2000. While walking up, enjoy a great view of the lake and the surrounding areas.

Pleasantly suprised. A summary of the history of Malaysia 1400-2000, i was reading all the etchings skipping only a few, all the way up.. took me about 40 minutes... n to think tht I just did it today on MALAYSIA DAY 16 September!!!

Not everyone likes history but I do n i think its good to bring your kids and or grandchildren here n plan some kind of activities.. like treasure hunt may be to make them go tru all that historical landmarks.

I was intrigued .. like i just learnt when the first car was imported into Malaysia!!

The only thing was tht I didnt know what the thing was called.. I couldn’t find a name to this structure .. i was looking around for it because i wanted to get more info. I only knew the name till my son told me after seeing the picture of it!

And another thing.. the history of Terengganu according to this narrative in the 1700 ? I thought we have historical evidence of Terengganu even before 1400??

Anyway folks.. again just pleasantly surprised to discover this in my own country.. after those travels in other places 😆

But I dont see people earnestly reading those...

Nothing much here. Its a good landmark though. I regularly park nearby and whip out my bicycles for the Core Island Route! Novice cyclist MUST MUST try this!

Besides being a good meeting point for your ride/run buddies theres a cafe nearby & also the ubiquitous McDonalds !!! oh..... clean public toilets! So its super convenient!

Back to the Core Island route.... super picturesque ( you take in views of the lake and the many bridges / parks & buildings) . Its super safe cause it is totally free of traffic.

Take a detour to Putra Mosque & Butterfly Bridge to stretch the circuit to over 13km. Once you arrive back at the monument, go round again in the opposite direction and you will get a whole new set of views from a different perspective. This should easily get you over 23km of exercise with spectacular scenery... a ride...

We went here by 'accident'. Passed by numerous times but never realised its significance. This is a severely underrated monument.

As you walk up the ramp, there are glass panels etched with Malaysian history nuggets. You have a chronogical history lesson on the foundations of the nation. Quite unexpected as we initially didn't think of walking up the ramp, only to find ourselves completely awe by it. Highly recommend you walk the short ramp up, it is not too steep and is a nice walk.

The amount of publicity this monument gets is just pale compared with it should be. This monument should rank along with any of the other significant monuments in downtown KL. Sadly, I saw signs of deterioration due to maintenance. Hope it will get its...
