Smoked Kingdom by Don Daniyal — Restaurant in Putrajaya

Assalamualaikum. I do not usually give full reviews but all I have to say is that the food quality did not meet our expectations. My family and I came to Putrajaya’s branch today (19th February 2023) for lunch and it is our first time here. We made the reservation earlier for eight (8) people to avoid queuing.

The food tasted okay and the price was reasonable. However, the food quality was bad, maybe because the chef did not properly check the food before being served.

1. The FRIES (appetizers) were SERVED LATE AT THE SAME TIME AS THE MAIN COURSE and the fries were SOGGY.

2. The APPETIZERS WERE SERVED ON KIDDIES’ PLATES (similar to Ikea plastic) when it was not listed under the kid's menu in the first place (see photo)

3. We ordered the YOUYO MELTIQUE BEEF to be a MEDIUM COOK BUT TURNED OUT to be MEDIUM RARE.

4. The GRILLED DISHES that we ordered (Striploin Steak, Grilled Chicken, Mixed Grilled & Youyo Meltique Beef) WERE NOT NEWLY GRILLED but reheat maybe, yet BARELY WARM.

5. The GRILLED CHICKEN was also DRY.

6. The brown sauce that was served with the grilled dishes - was COLD.

7. The BUTTERMILK CHICKEN was also COLD. Served with soup, but the SOUP WAS COLD UNTIL YOU CAN SEE THE FAT THAT ALREADY SET FLOATING IN THE SOUP.

8. THE ROASTED POTATOES WERE COLD & SOGGY. It is like they were cooked and baked yesterday and reheated before being served, yet they are BARELY WARM.

9. I ORDERED A LATTE (as stated in the menu book), but unfortunately, it DID NOT TASTE LIKE A LATTE at all but like a Kopiko candy. So, I asked the staff what is this and the staff proudly answered, “WE USE INSTANT COFFEE”. (I think you should not mention it as a latte in your menu book, better put it as “Instant Coffee” and charge it accordingly).

10. The BLUEBERRY CHEESE WAFFLE turned out to be like a BLUEBERRY JAM BEING DUMPED ON THE WAFFLE together with a scoop of ice cream or cheese (not sure) and oreo-crumb (see photo)

11. The ICE CREAM on top of the BANANA SPLIT CARAMEL WAFFLE WAS CRYSTALLIZED (has already melted and is re-freeze)

I gave it 1 star because one of the waffles ordered was well-presented and had great taste (see photo). We did not bother to take many photos as we were not excited to do so (because of the food quality). It was just an honest review. In my view, the owner/ the branch manager/ the chef should seriously consider the comments and take immediate action for the good sake of the...

Sad to say that the food that were served to us not up to the standard that been advertise!

Hmmm where should I start perhaps with the japanese youyu steak.. v ordered 2 Japanese youyu steak with 1 of the steak v requested it to b cook well done and another one medium well... hmmm both came medium rare... hahahaha with a salty taste be it the vege, the gravy and even the steak itself... a big dissapointment with the quality as I dun mind to pay more so long the quality is worth the money...unfortunately ur Japanese youyu steak not worth the money.. plus its expensive RM89++ per plate with a lowsy quality... and pity my mom still try her really best to finish her dishes served as it is the most expensive dishes for the nite...

Then the salmon, for this I precisely asking it to be cooked with less salty, however everything on the plate was salty except the mash potatoes (tasteless)....huhuhuhu since m hungry and its quite pricey, just hv to finish the fish..oh I also nearly been choked by the fish bones.... hmm seriously 🤨🙄

The chilli nachos, hmmm again its salty...I do recommend for ur chef @ sky dining wangsa maju to do his high blood test as most of his food are salty...pity us ur customers hv to eat ur salty food...huhuhu🙄🙄

The rest of ur food seems to be ok only nothing special that can makes my family n I remember unless for the bad qualities of the food that being served to us...

Really A BIG time dissapointment tho...for tonite it cost us RM400+ just for mmm not quality food served...

Not sure and hope it not the same with ur other branches i.e putrajaya n shah alam....

My mom still back u up by mentioning that oh perhaps if v go to ur smoked kingdom in putrajaya the taste will b different with I doubt so....

However I prefer to give ppl benefit of the doubt and hope when v go to ur smoked kingdom in putrajaya it can change my perception of ur restaurant...

For now, I can only give 1 star to ur smoked kingdom @...

Summary: if you are particular about your meat, this is not the place for you. The pictures of the meat and the food suggested that they are connoisseurs of meat. But it turned out its an ordinary Malaysian "western" restaurant. Overall in terms of food, there is a lot to improve in the kitchen. Its like barang order and barang terima kind of feeling. Looks good only in pictures.

I didnt want to go to Smoke Kingdom after reading the reviews and the 3.8 rating. Some of the reviews suggested undercooked food, saltiness and late service as their main issues. But then my relative wanted to try because it is "by Don Daniyal". To appease them, i went.

The positive. Restaurant easy accessibility, restaurant decoration is good, restaurant is clean, staff were polite and courteous. The only good food that i tasted was worthy was the Hawaiians Pizza. The blend of sauce and cheese was good. Cheese was stringy to the base.

The negative. The reviews i read before this were not far off from my experiences at this outlet. The steak was raw. We had to to return it to the kitchen to ask them to grill it more. The grilled chicken was cold when we received it, which suggested they either pre-cooked or they had it out in the open for too long. Pizza was the only good thing that had taste and was hot when we received it. In terms of taste, our grilled chicken and mixed grill were bland; the sauce they provided for the meat gave it some taste. But only just a tad because it was quite runny sauce. They used the same sauce for the mixed grill, grilled chicken and double beafy burger; they even had another pasta sauce for the mixed grill which was a bit strange.
