Basilica of Saint Dominic & Porto Salvo — Attraction in Valletta

This church is the biggest nuisance in the neighbourhood. They're constantly disturbing and disrupting public peace with their noise pollution. The bells are too excessive and too loud. Times have moved on, and rather than celebrating the Lord, they instead would rather stick to their uncultured ways, which may have been accepted a hundred years ago, but not in these modern times. Not to mention carrying out excavation works on a weeknight at 4 o'clock in the morning! Becoming an even bigger annoyance towards the residents. So we cannot sleep before 1 am because of the bars and music, we can't rest during the day because of the bells and other noises, we cannot eve sleep in the middle of the night because of works carried out on the church's property! The Basilica of Saint Dominic is one of the 3 parish churches of Malta. The first stone was placed in 1571. It was partially damaged by storms and earthquakes, declared unsafe and closed. Η Βασιλική του Αγίου Δομίνικου επίσης γνωστή ως Βασιλική της Παναγίας του Ασφαλούς Καταφυγίου και του Αγίου Δομίνικου διοικείται από το Δομινικανικό Τάγμα του οποίου το μοναστήρι βρίσκεται πίσω από την εκκλησία. Η γη πάνω στην οποία είναι χτισμένη η εκκλησία και το μοναστήρι δόθηκαν στην παραγγελία του Μεγάλου Μαγίστρου Pierre de Monte . Ο Τζιρόλαμο Κασσάρ ανατέθηκε να καταρτίσει τα σχέδια. Η πρώτη πέτρα τοποθετήθηκε στις 19 Απριλίου 1571. Η ενορία ιδρύθηκε στις 2 Ιουλίου 1571 με διάταγμα που δόθηκε από τον Πάπα Πίο Ε ', που θεωρείται ευεργέτης της οικοδόμησης της Βαλέτας. Αφιερώθηκε στην Παναγία του Ασφαλούς Καταφυγίου λόγω του μεγάλου αριθμού ναυτικών που συνήθιζαν να πηγαίνουν στο μικρό παρεκκλήσι που είχαν χτίσει οι Δομινικανοί πριν από την κατασκευή της μεγάλης εκκλησίας για να ευχαριστήσουν τη Μητέρα του Θεού όταν επέστρεφαν με ασφάλεια στο λιμάνι μετά από μακρινά και επικίνδυνα θαλάσσια ταξίδια. Ανακοινώθηκε επίσης ότι η ενορία του Αγίου Δομίνικου θα ήταν η κύρια ενοριακή εκκλησία της πόλης. Μια νέα εκκλησία χτίστηκε στην ίδια θέση της αρχικής εκκλησίας περίπου 25 χρόνια μετά το κλείσιμό της λογω σεισμων. Ο ναός άνοιξε και ευλογήθηκε στις 15 Μαΐου 1815.
