My husband's parents are both Maltese but he has not been to Malta since he was 2 years old (almost 50 years ago) and since this was my first time visiting Malta, we decided to check out The Maltese Experience based on a recommendation from a friend. We are glad we did because we both really enjoyed it. We were a little concerned at first because my husband is 6'6" and once you go downstairs, you have to walk through a long tunnel that is not very tall and at times, his head would brush against the ceiling. But all was good once we entered the shop. We were delighted to find that the shop and the theatre were very well air-conditioned because we were there in August and it was truly hot outside. We were provided headsets that offered commentary in your choice of language. We both found the documentary to be enjoyable and informative. My husband even learned some things he did not know. After the documentary, we took a guided tour of the La Sacra Infermeria. Our guide was delightful and we found it to be truly interesting. The Malta Experience was an overall enjoyable experience and it was nice to learn about the country at the start of our visit to Malta. We would definitely recommend it to those visiting Malta for the first time. *Note: The seats in the theatre are fairly small and the rows are a bit tight. Given my husband's height, we had to sit in the very front row because he was too tall to fit in the other rows.

The Malta experience is a 45 minute educational video presented in many different languages which are delivered via headphones. It covers the history of Malta and was informative and concise enough to keep the attention of most people. I found the video a little dated though and a bit like a photo presentation - a bit more interesting video footage would be appreciated. I also thought the price of the ticket was a little expensive at 15 euros considering the excellent national war museum is next door with many more informative videos and much more modern presentation. The saving grace was the excellent tour by Anna of the old hospital built by the order of St John. She brought the history of the place to life and was obviously passionate about history. I really enjoyed her tour and this was the only bit of the experience that felt unique to the Malta experience alone.

Would I recommend to a friend? No. Would I go again knowing what I know. No. It was over priced for 45 minute video. If you’re interested in the history of Malta do a search on YouTube and save yourself some euros. The technology used for the headphones was functional but old. Overall it was very underwhelming. Children and teens would hate this video. It would be like something they are forced to watch in a school history class when the teacher was out and they left this video as the sun plan. If you found my review helpful please let me know by giving me a thumbs up.

Beware of stairs, if mobility issues, Video was good with headsets (bring your own disinfection tissue with you) Multi language. La Sacra Infermeria Tour with Anna in English (she was exceptionally knowledgeable and easy to understand) Again more stairs than expected. There are 6 levels - we were on 3. Anna brought the experience of Knights Hospital in a clever, horrific but also how advanced compared to some modern hospitals. My knee felt instantly better on hearing of amputations guiloteen like with 2 swords and bleeding stopped with hot pitch! Really enjoyed experience.

The movie about Malta was enjoyable and the sound was good. The tour afterwards was led by the wonderful guide, Anna and was, for me, a very special Malta experience. She guided us through what was at the time a wonderful hospital, which was used by men only. She showed us where the garden used to be, which is now an historical theatre where Presidents Bush and Gorbachev met at a summit. She also explained the meaning behind the 8-point Maltese cross. All in all, she made the tour every interesting. Also important, there are public toilets which were very clean.

I kind of had the feeling the Malta Experience itself was closed at the time of our visit BUT, we were really happy to find out that there was a small staircase down to the waterfront where we found out that there's a great little spot ro go swimming as well as having a great view. So a shame we didn't get the Malta Experience we'd hoped for but still we had a great experience walking down to the waterfront.
