Great experience and well worth paying the extra few euros for access to the lower part of the Barrakka Gardens. Included is the audio tour guide and a better up close amazing balcony view of the cities. The staff were very friendly and informative and explained a lot of the battery firing display and tour is funded by donations from the public so we were happy to make a small donation. We initially did the audio tour then came back for the afternoon battery firing as advised by the staff. The access to the lower part allowed us to get an up close view of the firing demonstration with the staff explaining the history and process. Very informative and well worth it....

The bell tower and the monument here was built to honor the memory of the soldiers that died here defending the island in the second world war. The bell will sound at the midday and it is probably the biggest on the island, so it sounds very loud: be sure you are not too close to it, as it will probably give you a headache.
