Booked this restaurant for some nice platters and wine with some friends - we were a table of seven people....unfortunately it was not a pleasant visit. To start, our orders were taken, and when speaking English instead of Maltese - the waiter was quite rude, asking "what?" And when informed the person dining is Italian and can only speak English not Maltese, the waiter stated "allura??" ....we ignored it and continued making our order, thinking perhaps he was just barely understanding even though there was no issue with the English spoken. We ordered our platters, and one by one you are taken to the cheese/ham section to place your choices - instead of being told what choices are available they just stared and waited...I asked them to explain what there is...they quickly went through basics with no time to understand what would go well with what...same for the hams...very rushed. We were also placed on a small table to accommodate seven people, and instead of helping with the platters being placed they told us to make the space and move our things. We also had three bottles of white wine between us, one being placed in a chiller, and the other two just placed on the table getting warm. Two of our platters had "burrata" , and once cut open we realized they were congealed and bitter (gone off)...perhaps with the heat in Malta they went off which is fine, so we alerted the waiter so they can replace it with a fresh one since it is not cheap - to which we got questioned about it...not believing us at first, and then begrudgingly taking it and giving us another (which was good)....no apologies at all. The platters also had different things provided even though they were same sizes (some got given galletti, others had to request it, some had olive oil and vinegar given...others had to request). One of us also ordered a focaccia option, which was not a focaccia the way it was baked (as per image added).... Overall did not feel welcome at all, and definitely not worth the price being oaid...bad attitude from two waiters and bad service, venue was nice at least, but would...
Read moreWe had a surprise birthday party at this cute little bar - it went well over all, but there were a few unpleasant hiccups. The invited guests were not allowed to order any drinks until I arrived with the person whose birthday it was which was almost an hour later - they were told that alcohol could not be served until I arrived because the open bar was never confirmed despite having confirmed it the day before via messenger. The pricing of platters + open bar per person was also not clear, and I was left with the impression of a particular price which then changed last minute. Although I acknowledge that this may have been my misunderstanding, I feel that it could have been clarified beforehand. Service was also very slow (platters took over an hour to arrive), however to their credit I believe that the staff were doing their best with the resources they had. Otherwise, the platters where excellent, and the drinks were good. Would recommend for a drink and a platter but not for an...
Read moreI've been trying to go to the little red door in valetta for ever now and finally managed to get around to it. The little red door, as the name suggests, is very mousey within the beautiful streets of Valletta. The interior is super cosy and very welcoming.
They basically serve various different platters and have meat lover options, as well as vegetarian and vegan ones. They also serve foccachia or lasagna as well as a few other dishes, but the main focus are the platters.
We chose our own cold cuts and cheeses and got plenty of other goodies with it, like olives, dips, sundried tomatoes, biscuits and more.
I loved this platter and would even say it's the best I've had in a veeeeery long time.
One star off simply because the service was a bit slow. That's often expected for Malta though, as the country just overall doesn't have a big service culture.
That definitely won't stop me from coming back. Next time with 7 of my friends, so we can have the...
