Avoid the hiking activity. It is not worth the steep price that the company charges. I was really looking forward to spending some time hiking on the trails. There were very few actual trails. Canopy Rivers has a space that is primarily designed for zip lines and ATV vehicles. The number of zip lines is due to increase, according to my hiking guide. The vast majority of the time was spent on soft, dusty roads that had been repeatedly chewed up by the ATVs. Great for ATVs, a lousy way to spend the day as a hiker. With ATVs, there is a lot of dust hanging in the air that settles on the vegetation. Hardly a jungle experience. Additionally, the price is way too much for what you get. I was on another tour that was $30 cheaper that included an amazing lunch, a tequila-tasting led by a knowledgeable and charismatic man that loved tequila. The Canopy Rivers tour offers you a small bottle of water and a small, bruised apple. Their presenter for the tequila tasting had to struggle to be heard as Canopy River placed the tequila tasting beside the group of zip liners doing cheers as part of their safety talk. I felt sorry for the presenter. It was not a fair situation for her as the layout of activities is poorly designed. Additionally, the tequila tasting portion was so small in comparison to other tastings that I have attended in Mexico. As I could not hear much of the presenter, I walked over to their pool and was promptly told that I had to pay to enter the space. They tell visitors to not bring food so that they have to buy lunch at the Canopy Rivers restaurant. Thankfully, I found a hammock to stretch out while waiting for the ride back to Puerto Vallarta. Canopy Rivers needs to embrace the service s that they are designing towards (ATVs, ziplines and horse back riding) and drop their Hiking program. The cost doesn’t not match the experience and the experience was like dust...

Disclosure: Our adventure was booked thru our hotel in Vidanta resort.
First you must taxi from the resort to the Canopy River office. Straight forward enough. Then you load into an old open air truck; I called it the cattle wagon. You take a long hot, rough riding journey (your bum will be sore) to a second pick up location, where more customers climb aboard, then it’s thru the “old town” portion of Puerto Vallarta to the Canopy River compound - about 45 minutes in total from the office - but it will seem, and may well actually be, longer.
Once in the machines, the adventure is fun but it is single file and you don’t use even half of the available 1000cc of power the side-by-sides are capable of - for safety reason a certain constraint must be enforced but, in my view, there is more room for fun within safe limits.
Your day, if you sign up for the morning adventure, runs about six hours: of that you will be actually in/on your machine for approximately one hour.
The people at Canopy River are good folks, doing their jobs in a friendly manner and the machines are fun - whether or not you feel you received the adventure as advertized is now up to you. At least now you are informed.
Note: Bring a back pack and a change of clothes - you will be glad you did.
PS: you do get to purchase lunch, you do get to taste tequila, and you get a brief stop at a waterfall. The ad says no cameras allowed, but everyone has their phones - we took several photos.
The tour guides take lots of photos which are made available for...
Read moreWe got off our cruise ship and hopped in a cab as per directions from our awesome Estigo Tours crew. It was a short 5 minute ride and we were greeted as soon as we stepped out of the car. Lucky for us, Estigo Tours partners with a locally owned and operated Zipline Crazyville called Canopy River - no surprise, this place was THE BEST!
There was some light hiking getting up and onto the ziplines, a couple times and our boys Rafael(ito) and Jorge(ito) told hilarious stories about falling seedpods, told us fun facts about local horticulture (don't eat the seed that smells like feet) and how the zipline company has helped farming families in the region... mostly they were chatting us up because we were winded and they didn't want us to feel bad HAHAHA
Some hiking, some flying high over the earth at ridiculous speeds, all on metal cords with names like "George of the Jungle" - I definitely watched out for trees and "The Human Bullet" which also, definitely was. We were laughing so hard and having the best time, I couldn't have asked for a better crew. Don't forget Freddy! He didn't do me any favors in the photography department but that was totally my fault. The pictures speak for themselves - we had a BLAST without a worry in the world.
We ended our day dirty and happier than we have been in a LONG time. Thank you Rafaelito y Jorgito!!! We will never forget our adventure and hope to see you again soon!
We HIGHLY recommend Canopy River and will definitely be visiting them when we return to PV.
Totally book an awesome adventure with the awesome hombres at Canopy River! You will not be...
