Barceló Maya Palace: where the sun is hot, the food is great, and the pool chair situation feels like “The Hunger Games: Resort Edition.” 🏖️🎯 We were a family of 6, with kids varying from age 11 to 29 who made the trip to Mexico for the week of Christmas to be “less stressed”. Our check-in experience wasn’t great — we had two rooms: family suite for my husband and I with our two younger kids and a junior suite for our son and his girlfriend. Even though we had both rooms on the same booking, they put us in two separate buildings. We requested for them to move our son to our building which they were able to accommodate, but the family suite was three hours late past their normal check-in time, and even when we were told the suite was ready, we showed up and had to wait outside our door while the housekeeping team was still cleaning. Also neither rooms keys worked so we had to make the 10 km hike from the rooms to the front desk back to the rooms twice just to get the keys re-programmed. Our family wasn’t going to let this early experience ruin our trip, so we tried to turn things around the next day. Boy, were we surprised… While the property is stunning and the meals are top-notch, the daily scramble for chairs brings out a level of human behavior I thought was reserved for Black Friday sales. When we came out to watch the sunrise at 7:20am, about 90% of the pool and beach chair were gone. All towels, not a soul in sight. “No reserving chairs” signs everywhere. The property is huge, there are five different complexes to the Barcelo grand resort. On Christmas Eve there was not a single pool chair or beach chair available across all five properties by 10 o’clock in the morning. That’s insane. I don’t blame anyone for needing to do this for their families so that they can enjoy a day beside the pool. There are definitely not enough pool chairs to accommodate the number of guests at this resort. And this is the only resort we’ve been to where you do not have the option of purchasing a cabana on the family side, which we would’ve been happy to do. You are only able to buy a small bed on the adult only poolside. Would we come back? Probably not—my sanity can’t handle another round of resort chair squid games. If you do come, May the odds be ever in your favor.

We had a very unpleasant experience during our 10-day stay at the Barcelo Maya Palace hotel, encountering several issues throughout our visit. One major problem was the overcrowded beach. If you don’t claim a chair by dropping a towel as early as 8 AM, it’s guaranteed you won’t find any available seats until around 4 PM. Once, we didn’t follow that practice and ended up asking for assistance from the staff, but they showed no interest in helping. It took over an hour of persistent requests before they finally found a single seat for our family of four. The rooms were another major source of frustration. Even though we kept the doors and windows closed at all times and ran the air conditioning, the rooms were so humid that permanent puddles formed on the floor. This not only made our socks soaking wet at all times but also created an overall feeling of discomfort and lack of cleanliness. To make matters worse, every night we woke up feeling drenched because the sheets were perpetually damp from the humidity. This created an unpleasant and uncomfortable sleeping environment that ruined the experience. While the hotel offers a variety of food options, the taste and quality leave much to be desired. By day three, the repetitive and lackluster meals had us dreading mealtimes instead of looking forward to them. Additionally, we had a frustrating experience at one of the restaurants. Although we had a reservation for 7 PM, we weren’t seated until 7:30 PM. When we complained about the long wait, the host dismissed our concerns, repeatedly telling us, “It’s okay, you can wait,” which felt inconsiderate and unprofessional. The most shocking incident occurred when friends we hadn’t seen in 15 years visited us in the hotel lobby. They didn’t use any hotel facilities—just sat with us in the main lobby, chatting peacefully. After only 20 minutes, hotel staff approached and told them they either had to leave or pay a fee to stay. I’ve never in my life witnessed such audacity and lack of basic hospitality from hotel staff. Overall, the constant discomfort, unprofessional service, poor food quality, and lack of hospitality created an overwhelmingly unpleasant experience that left us extremely dissatisfied with our stay.

We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace for 5 nights and it was more than enough time for our family of 3. Overall it was our first time at all inclusive experience and it wasn’t bad. Food was good at buffet but after 3-4 days it gets repeated and not much variations Restaurant reservation can be done better and maybe online by each guest. We liked caribeqn and French restaurants. Service and stuff are super friendly and nice. People are very welcoming. Room was very humid and smelled not very pleasant, all our cloths become moist and wet ones will not dry. Cleaning was done late and we were not able to put toddler for a nap. 1 day our room was not even cleaned because we haven’t put the sign on the door, which is weird even when I called a reception to request a cleaning before 1pm. Beach is very nice but if you read all the comments you have to get up6-7am to reserve your chair otherwise no luck until 4-5pm. I feel that even Barcelo Palace is better one over other ones at the Barcelo it is still a lot of room for improvements and needs to be more modern style and online access to reserve restaurants, get info, directions and etc. for 2025 it is lacking on upgrades

Wow! We've only been here 4hrs! We ate at Coral Grill. You want to talk about excellence? Carlos Yah was amazing! I've never met someone so attentive! Two thumbs up!! We were also taking care of by Cayetano Dzib, again amazing! Mario De Dios and Baltimore Zaragoza, were very attentive, punctual ,and nice at dinner!!! While visiting the resort, we really enjoyed The CoCo Bar. I would like to give a shout out to several people. Maria Perez,was super attentive. She really made the atmosphere fun. Her personality is everything. Shout out to Jorge,Leonard,and Fernando for the wonderful service! Definitely a vibe! This morning at Hacienda we had the pleasure of having Rene Agvilar, Esteban Garcia,and Jose Aparicio as our servers. Rene was fantastic. He has a beautiful soul! Esteban and Jose were very attentive! Kelis Velazquez ,Mayra Juarez,and Gustavo Dzul were fantastic at lunch!! The very best thing about the resorts is the activities. Jonatan Zurita was the most entertaining!! He was very nice!

Abbiamo soggiornato per il nostro viaggio di nozze per 8 giorni. Formula all inclusive, il cibo è buono e la location è perfetta. Mare cristallino e piscine pulite. Il cibo tutto sommato è buono e c’è una scelta varia (buffet). Ci sono anche ristoranti tipici (italiano-francese-argentino-brasiliano-messicano e altre specialità, ovviamente in base al tipo di pacchetto alcuno saranno inclusi altri invece si devono pagare per usufruirne(alla carta). L’animazione è fantastica e tutti i ragazzi sono fantastici e disponibili a qualsiasi richiesta, soprattutto Natasha che ci ha fatto sentire dal primo momento a casa. Consigliato anche per le famiglie

Hotel jest ogromny i składa się z pięciu wielkich hoteli, do którego każdy z gości ma swobodny dostęp. Jedzenie w każdym hotelu jest podobne, więc nie musisz się zastanawiać gdzie jest najlepsze. Ja byłem z rodziną w Barcello Palace. Tylko ostatni nie jest dostępny dla dzieci, bo jest tylko dla dorosłych. Po kompleksie hotelowym jeżdżą na zmianę dwa autobusy😌 mają identyczna trasę więc nie martw się, że się zgubisz. W centrum wodnym masz nurkowanie, jetski, kajaki ale pamiętaj, że na większość atrakcji rezerwacje robi się rano tego samego dnia. Więc koło 9 rano są kolejki po najlepsze atrakcje. Niektórzy goście zostawiają przy każdym posiłku 1 dolar napiwku dla obsługi. Możesz to robić ale jeżeli to nie jest Twój zwyczaj to nie krępuj się, obsługa nie domaga się napiwków. Wszystkie atrakcje na lądzie np. gokarty, minigolf są za darmo. Warto skorzystać z restauracji Ala Carte, które są obok centrum handlowego. Należy zdecydowanie wcześniej zrobić rezerwacje
