Potential diamond in the rough. The apartment complex is very nice but it still needs some work. The rooms are nicely decorated, useful kitchen appliances, ample wardrobe space, novelty round bed, comfy couch & big smart TV. There were a few user friendly details missing - nowhere to hang your bath towels, nowhere to stack clean dishes, or towel to dry them with. We stayed for 2 months. During this time there were frequent power outtages. The airport work affected local shut downs - sometimes we were warned about them, sometimes not. Gekko Travel management had good communication via Whatsapp & relocated us twice during long outtages. On-site laundry facilities were still under construction, though they said they hope to be open soon. I contacted local launderette via whatsapp for a pick up/drop off 24 hour service. Many apartments are still vacant and unfinished, so building work may be heard. Elevators were not yet installed, so you may be on the 3rd level with stairs only. The pool design is beautiful but often dirty due to being surrounded by trees & bugs - I saw them cleaning it sometimes. There are a few random whote plastic sun loungers left in the pool, they get covered in bird poo & kill the vibe a bit. Keep in mind there's no shade/umbrellas by the nice padded loungers. The bar area by the pool is also not up & and running, so you need to BYO or order in via Tomato.mx We ordered groceries regularly from Super Aki supermarket online & cooked. You need cash to pay for these deliveries. You need to BYO air-conditioning remote into the gym or ask reception each time to turn it on for you as the aircon unit is usually left off. This means the floor gets a bit slippery & condensation. There are no mats for floor work or anti bacterial wipe down facilities so it can feel a bit grubby. It's surprisingly loud. You can hear neighbouring music easily in the evenings & often megaphone annoucements or jingles from passing vechicles advertising something. The roads around Ophelia are very bumpy, muddy, unpaved & not lit in places. Keep in mind when driving or walking.

Stay here at your own risk! Located in the middle of a slum, all three roads leading to the hotel go through slums and are filled with potholes. Even if you have your own car, it is dangerous to drive. If you are not already aware, taxi prices are extortionate in Tulum and non negotiable - the hotel also quotes the same ridiculous prices (higher taxi fares than NY/ London). There are bikes available, but they’re US$5 for 3 hours - in such a location and at a “5 star” hotel, you’d expect bikes to be free. The area is far too dangerous to walk through in the dark, and pretty dodgy in the day. The hotel is new so was only at 20% capacity, but it’s no excuse for the terrible service. For three days we asked for our room to be cleaned each day, but it never was. We checked out two days early as we’d had enough, and the front desk didn’t care when we explained why, or seem surprised. The rooms photograph well, but are actually made of v poor quality materials, very noisy (you can hear everything in surrounding apartments) and badly ventilated. The shower water smells like chlorine (it’s not an issue we saw elsewhere in Tulum). There was also a terrible smell through the whole complex. The pool is large but too shallow to actually swim in. If the hotel was at capacity there wouldn’t be enough lounge space. There is no restaurant, as the food is delivered from the sister hotel. No complimentary water or tea / coffee provided (coffee machine provided). No phone, communication with front desk via WhatsApp but they never respond. This is definitely not a 5* hotel, and not worth the high price.

This is a great hotel with some great amenities. They have a great pool, beautiful landscaping and some great people working here. The bike rental scheme is fantastic , it would be great if they had more bikes as a few times a large group of guests would just book all 7 bikes leaving none for the rest of the guests. They have a mix of electric bikes and regular ones. They're all up to a good standard though a little old. However, there is the age old question of how clean is clean. Personally, I think if a guest has to clean up Doritos and bottle caps when they first arrive at the hotel room. It's not clean enough. The organisation needs to ensure that the work is done by the cleaners up to a good standard. The surrounding area of the hotel is very poor. The hotel and organisation should put pressure on the local government to clean the trash up, building trash and homewaste should not just be dumped in the street. This is an avenue where cars drive and also kids play. It results in very unsanitary conditions for the local people and guests to Tulum and to the hotel. Other than this, the hotel is very quiet and a very pleasant place to stay. The gym equipment needs some maintenance work, very simply just some oil to allow the cables to slide better. I did enjoy my stay here, it was like a home away from home. But there are some very clear problems with the local area and unfortunately I will not be returning until Tulum treats its local people better. Please see photos of the hotel and surrounding area.

A new hotel in Tulum, there are still details that are not completed, but this does not interfere with a quality rest. Very nice rooms, boho style, everything is high quality, new, clean, nice to be. Outside the hotel, a big contrast is the real life of the Mexican people. Sea from the hotel in 15 minutes by car! Drive along the main road towards the sea and turn left! there along the sea you free parking. Right turn! - path to bars, restaurants and shops. There is no sea, parking is paid. For the first time we see such a concept that hotels have been built along the sea and specially close the entrance to ordinary people. There are passages to the sea, but you have to find a parking lot, pay, find this narrow, inconspicuous entrance and somehow get to the sea. Strange approach.

Very remote. 30 min walk into any bars and the hotel is connected on two sides without roads! Just rocky, bumpy mud. Out taxi driver almost refused to drop us off. Only one road in is tarmac and very long way round for bars. Only ever saw the coffee bar open once as we were checking out! Being an apartment the constant banging of doors and people moving chairs and tables ALL night! Large population of dogs out the back barking all night and our neighbours partying so loud until the early hours.. The two ladies at reception at 11am much more helpful. Pool is OK on a positive note and towels included. The pics were taken directly outside the 'hotel' This place isn't for us.. We left after only 2 nights and tried to book a cab with the unhelpful guy at reception..
