Read moreUnsanitary and bad customer service. I came here last night and ordered a steak quesadilla to go. I specifically asked for no sour cream or vinegar. They bring it out and it has both. The vinegar is on the tortilla so I ask them to switch the tortilla. I follow the waiter to the back I see him and the cooks touching my food with dirty bare hands just wiping the vinegar off (which left it soggy and tasting like vinegar still) He threw that piece on the bottom and then lied straight to my face saying then had switched it out when I watched them do all that. It was late, I had already paid and I was starving so I just took it and hoped for the best. Well today I woke up sick. I get that cooks here may not use gloves bc they wash their hands but I watched the waiter who had been at the front of house touching all kinds of stuff handling my food with bare hands then giving it to me and gaslighting me on top of all that.
Also when I went to pay he added a tip for himself on the terminal. He said it was a “service fee” but it clearly said propina, it was a to go order so I wasn’t receiving any service and I saw him hesitating when he did it so I know it wasn’t normal protocol.
This was my second time here. The first time I came in with friends and ordered a chicken quesadilla. Again I asked for no vinegar or sour cream. Instead of taking my order the waitress starts arguing with me about it telling me “it’s on the side it’s on the side” I don’t care where it is. I don’t want it. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to just take my order how I’m asking for it. Then we wanted separate checks and she threw a fit about that too. She seemed apologetic at the end so I wasn’t even going to write this review but after last night I had to because these things happened within a few days of each other so the likelihood of it happening to you...
Read moreOur experience at Onyx started off so promising. Based on google reviews it was on my list and in the afternoon as we were walking by, Eddie stopped us and went over the menu and chatted with us.
We returned for dinner later that evening and Eddie served us and he remembered us and was like BOOM, full of energy and excitement, gave us suggestions. We placed our drink and appetizer orders and when he left looked at each other and went Wow, this is the atmosphere and service we are looking for.
Drinks came and mine was a bit of a show... I think it was called 'La Lirona". It had a long rosemary spring in it where Eddie charred it with a torch and I mixed and swirled it in the drink. Very cool!!
When our appetizer of Coconut Shrimp came that's when our experience shifted... the shrimp were good but a bit on the overcooked side but Eddie.... essentially disappeared. Now you can see that the level of service here is at a high level. Early in the evening the manager, Alfonso came over and introduced himself to us. What turned our experience was that after we ordered our mains when the appetizer came we waited for about 30 - 40 mins for our entrees with nobody really checking on us, we weren't asked if we wanted a 2nd drink, and our energy level dipped, etc. What put it over the top for us is a 20% tip was automatically added to the bill. 20% is what I usually will tip at a minimum for great service but not based on this evening and an auto tip. Of course when I asked I was told - No, No that is optional... but included in the bill total - I still tipped 15%.
With all said, the food was good but not great, the vibe of the restauant is really cool and you can see that the service of the restaurant can be exceptional... we just had that 30 -...
