We decided to visit this place to say goodbye to Tulum. After trying different local areas, I must say that this place disappointed me and felt like a tourist trap. The guacamole was unseasoned, and the hot sauces on the table were not hot.
The night's highlight was the pulpo taco and the fried tuna taco, which were simply divine. However, the price was a little high for just one taco.
The service was not so good. Everything felt rushed. We were rushed and almost harassed to order. I asked the waiter for more time, and he was just looking straight at us. He even touched my phone, showing me his recommendation without my consent. The full service, from ordering to eating to paying the bill, took 30 minutes. We were not able to enjoy the nice atmosphere.
Lastly, there was an issue with the bill. The weiter told us that the tip was voluntary and the suggested amount was 25% and 15%. He handed me the card terminal to pay, and he took the liberty to add the 25% already, again pushing and rushing. I asked him to give me a moment to discuss with my partner. We decided to give only 10% since we didn't like the service, but the food was good. The waiter told me that the terminal only allowed me to add 15% or 25% and adding a personalized amount was just not possible. As a former waiter working with the same machine model he was using I know that is not true. So at the end I just told him to charge me the total without tips. I hate when they want to take advantage of tourist. Good luck next time trying to play another latino.
In summary, I will probably never come back. Go under your own risk, check your bill and have the...
Read moreLa Negra Tomasa is a restaurant that truly excels in every aspect, from its exceptional cuisine to its warm and welcoming atmosphere. One of the standout dishes that I highly recommend trying is La Torresona, a delightful creation that's reminiscent of the popular Mexican dish, aguachile.
La Torresona features succulent seafood that's perfectly cooked and served with an array of delicious accompaniments, including tangy salsa, fresh vegetables, and warm tortillas. The combination of flavors and textures is simply divine, and it's no wonder that this dish is a favorite among regulars.
But La Negra Tomasa is much more than just one standout dish. The restaurant's ceviche is also a must-try, with fresh and vibrant flavors that are perfectly balanced to create a dish that's both refreshing and satisfying.
The atmosphere at La Negra Tomasa is cozy and inviting, with a lively vibe that makes you feel right at home. The service is impeccable, with staff who are knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your dining experience is nothing short of spectacular.
Overall, La Negra Tomasa is a true gem of a restaurant that offers a culinary experience that's not to be missed. Whether you're a foodie looking for the next great seafood dish, or simply someone who enjoys a good meal in a great setting, this restaurant is an...
Read moreAfter 18+ visits to Tulum, we finally had the chance to check out this popular spot. The restaurant was busy with a lively atmosphere, but a few things left us disappointed:
The two ladies managing seating at the front door had quite the attitude. After saying no to the table right by the expo line, they wouldn’t let us sit at the bar while waiting for another table, so we ended up drinking our cocktails on the sidewalk. Meanwhile, the bar seats remained empty all night. What’s the deal with that? No bueno.
The cocktails were tasty but weak. I think this could be a whole different topic about drinks in Tulum but better stick with beer and tequila.
Yet another place in Tulum adding a mandatory 15% or 20% gratuity to the check. This trend is getting really frustrating. What if I want to tip 14%? Or less? Or more? Tipping should always be at the guest’s discretion—never required, period.
We ordered one ceviche tower, two cocktails, three beers, and one tostada, totaling $60 before the tip.
I know Tulum isn’t cheap—I’ve been coming here for 18 years—but it’s also changing. This has been the slowest March I’ve ever seen. The owners should take note: competition is high, and experiences like this will only make things worse.
Overall this was an okay experience and we won’t be...
