We didn’t get to go to this beach during our visit of the ruins as they found some turtle nests, which was pretty cool! The beach, however, looks very nice with great looking sand and clear water. Giving this one a 4-star just due to it being entertained with an experience I’m detailing below, in a “package” format, where we had a bad experience.
The people at the entrance to the Tulúm Ruins sold us on doing their “guided boat tour and snorkeling to see turtles”, which we can’t recommend. First, it’s a very long walk to get there from the ruins - and you have many taxis along the way trying to get you to spend more money for a lift, as well as a lot of traffic as the roadway there is currently under construction and so you’re sharing the road.
Once we finally got there, it was hard to find someone who knew what was going on. When we did, they gave us a loose timeframe for when we’d leave, and then just totally disappeared. We finally found them and got on the boat. They tried to mix up seating and spread our family between another. We get the weight distribution needs, but they were unwilling to discuss it and seemed more on the side of angry about it.
We were not told that our guides wouldn’t speak any English (and honestly they shouldn’t have to, but we would have liked to have been informed since this is a tourist destination), so we relied on another family on the boat who was nice enough to translate for us.
We got out to the “destination”, which sadly was a relatively small area of ocean with no less than 10 boats and 80+ people all clustered together. Then, the guide never asked how good anyone was at swimming (like if they can swim fast, if they are comfortable in that deep of water, etc.), and never talked about a plan either. They had everyone jump in, and then basically just sped through the water occasionally yelling for people to “come here”, only to be in an entirely different area when people would arrive. We basically got to see some coral and a couple of sting rays, but nothing else.
This entire part of the experience was just extremely unprofessional, rushed, and honestly very chaotic, and you’d have sworn that they had never done this whole thing before.
If you go to see the ruins, I’d recommend heavily avoiding the “boat tour and snorkeling” offering. There’s a much better place for this about 30 minutes away at Akumal Beach, where the water isn’t as clear, but we saw 5 sea turtles very close to us with a guide we...
Read moreI've been to the archaeological zone at Tulum a couple times now. It's historic. The Mayan architecture and history is fascinating.
For me, that is. For my kids, not so much.
Google maps directed my rental car to the correct location....I refused to believe it, deliberately forgot the official way in. Google directed me right - so if the ruins are all you want, listen to Google.
I went to the next street up. Found myself paying $35 per person for a tour run by the Hotel Pescadores. An outrageous sum! But - private parking. Entrance to the ruins. A boat tour, with snorkeling - both by open water, and then gently over the coral reef.
It felt like forever to walk to. It's hot. But so worth it.
Eddy was our guide. He rescued my hat (dove in, located it so far down) when it blew off. Took pictures of me and my two children, and carefully shepherded us in the water. He tickled sting rays for us, and found us a turtle - rustled up a couple sea stars, let me hold one.
My kids were thrilled at all of this, and - so was I. It was SUCH a wonderful experience, to know that I was with someone truly attending to me. The highlight of these two weeks, I'm...
Read moreI recently visited Playa Pescadores in Quintana Roo, Mexico and it was an amazing experience. The beach is beautiful, with crystal-clear water and white sandy shoreline. The water is warm and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. The beach also offers a great view of the Caribbean sea, with a beautiful sunset.
The beach is well-maintained, with plenty of palapas and sun loungers to relax and enjoy the sun. The staff is also friendly and helpful, they were available to answer any questions and provide umbrellas and chairs. The beach also offers a variety of activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, and boat trips. There are also several bars and restaurants nearby, where you can enjoy traditional Mexican food and drinks.
