During my recent visit to the Chinggis Khan Museum, I had the pleasure of being guided by an exceptionally knowledgeable and courteous individual who truly enhanced my experience at the museum. The guide ( Ms. Buyanjargal) displayed an impressive depth of knowledge about the history of Chinggis Khan, the Mongol Empire, and the artifacts housed in the museum.
From the moment greeted our group, her passion for the subject matter was evident. She engaged us with fascinating stories and insights about Chinggis Khan's life, conquests, and legacy, bringing the history to life in a captivating manner. Her explanations were clear, detailed, and filled with interesting anecdotes that made the tour not only educational but also entertaining.
One aspect that stood out to me was her ability to tailor the tour to the interests of the group. He took the time to gauge our knowledge levels and preferences, adjusting his commentary and focus accordingly. Whether we were history enthusiasts or casual visitors, he managed to strike a perfect balance between providing in-depth information and keeping things engaging for everyone.
Moreover, her courteous demeanor and professionalism were commendable. He patiently answered all of our questions, no matter how many we had, and did so with a genuine smile and willingness to share his knowledge. His enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear that he took great pride in his role as a guide...

Ulaanbaatar has plenty of bars that cater to wandering souls, but Grand Chinggis Khan Irish Pub stands out, if not for its drinks, then certainly for its name. At first glance, it looks like a standard Irish pub, but subtle Mongolian elements give it a local personality.
Margarita & Drinks: Unfortunately, the Margarita was underwhelming — too thin, poorly balanced, and lacking character. It lands somewhere between passable and forgettable. The beers are similar: not particularly flavorful, and certainly not memorable. If you’re a beer lover, you might want to look elsewhere.
The “Chinggis” Drink: However, one drink saves the night — the Chinggis. Whether it's the local spirit or a custom recipe, it’s delicious and unique. Smooth and flavorful, it’s definitely worth trying if you want something that captures the essence of the place.
Atmosphere & Service: The decor sticks to a traditional pub theme, with plenty of wood, cozy lighting, and a warm vibe. Music can get a bit loud at times, but never crosses into unpleasant. The staff is generally friendly, though service can slow down during busy hours.
Overall Impression: Grand Chinggis Khan Irish Pub won’t win awards for cocktails, but the signature Chinggis drink leaves a good impression. It’s a laid-back spot where you can relax — as long as you manage your...
Read morePleasantly surprised to see this new museum, new in that it was not here the last time I was in UB, about 8 years' ago and the sheer size of it on entrance is awe inspiring..... its a big massive building. Fitting I guess for the subject matter!
Costs about 10 Euros to enter, and there are 6 floors of history to get going through, plus a cafe at first floor, and a viewing platform at the top (closed when I was there), so its a real calorie counting workout to get all the ancient history of Mongolia done within one visit.
For me one of the attractions of a place like this is if I learn some new and interesting history. I did.....I learnt a lot.....for example...how far into Europe the Mongols went, the Islamic connections, the burial chambers, and the weaponry they used back in the day, amongst a host of other things. The exhibitions are very well done up, and it is nicely spaced out. There are elevators to take you to each floor, and plenty of seating available for those who want to take a breather.
All in all I spent a few hours here soaking up all the fascinating history. It is a great museum, possibly the best I think I have ever been too.....if I think about it...and another example of how this city is modernizing and moving with the times.
Very much...
