Le Bistrot Francais — Restaurant in Ulaanbaatar

A bit of old vibes 🕰️ Food is actually not bad. The ambiance is with a touch of elegance, and the outdoor patio was perfect on a warm evening. We started with a fresh salad, which was vibrant and perfectly dressed with a light vinaigrette that complemented the crisp greens. The Merlot we paired it with was a great choice from their extensive wine list. (smooth and well-balanced). The spicy seafood soup had just the right kick and I’d say the spice level was mild enough for most palates. We also tried a variety of other dishes, including the fillet steak. Overall, Le Bistrot Français is a gem in Ulaanbaatar for anyone craving refined French cuisine with a welcoming vibe....

Lovely French restaurant close to Sukhbataar Square, sporting a well curated selection of French varietal wines, classical French dishes (escargot were splendid) and topped off with a French ex-pat owner. Some dishes were not as fresh as others, but I suspect the owner struggles with continental ingredients in Mongolia (doubt there are many asparagus sources here!). Genuine French feel to restaurant with of course Mongolian touches like the crazy street scenes of cars...

To start with the positive, nice setting, comfortable tables and chairs, nice glasses and cutlery, amicable staff (which is usually the case in UB), food of decent quality. Then the not positive: a good portion of the menu is unavailable (and it takes forever to order because of back and forth with the kitchen), beef will always be served super well done regardless of customer’s desire, waiting times are long for food to arrive in spite of few diners in...
